Title: Mutant Chronicles – Doom Troopers
Author:Playmates Interactive Entertainment
Rom Player: KGEN

Synopsis: Finally, a game with a satisfactory number of decapitations. I’ll break it down so that those of you unfamiliar with the Mutant Chronicles game can figure this out: four Megacorporations have replaced all the nations of the world. In order to procure greater profits, they start exploring outer space, and accidentally unlock an evil force known as the Dark Symmetry. This brings all these crazy demons into our universe, led by a particularly ugly punk named Algeroth, and they don’t waste any time. Right away, they start killing people, then resurrecting them to fight as scary legionnaires. The Megacorporations send their fiercest troops, for which the game is named, to kill all these freaks and put the hurt on Algeroth. You get to choose from two heroes, each from a different Megacorporation: Mitch Hunter, from Capitol, and Max Steiner, from Bauhaus. Mitch’s weapon is a giant rifle that shoots bullets and rockets, while Max has two uzi-like guns and a wrist-mounted flamethrower. The most noteworthy part of the game, however, is the enemies and the way injury is dealt to them. The most common enemy, the legionnaire, will be decapitated with a single bullet, but will continue firing at random until its body is annihilated. The necromutant will take some damage, but then its legs will fly off while it continues to shoot at you until it too is completely destroyed. The final enemy type, the centurion, will die by getting its sword hand shot off and then falling off screen, but the most unusual death comes when you shoot one out of the air. Basically, you’ll blast a hole right through it, and it will fall to the ground, spurting blood and having violent spasms for a couple seconds. The problems the game had was that it was too short, with only four levels. The sound effects were good, especially all the screaming. The music was fairly unremarkable. Despite the shortness, this game is a definite hit for any action fans. If you still think the game isn’t that disturbing, wait until you fight the first boss, as he uses vomit as a weapon in an unusual fashion.
Best Cheats: Invulnerability - For invulnerability, enter the password SOUTHPAW. Watch out for pits, though. You can still die if you fall.
Bonus stage – Just before completing the second part of the last level, go into the exit pathway, but instead of leaving, jump up so that you grab a ledge then go left.
