Title: Castlevania (2nd Review)
Author:Konami
Rom Player: Nesten
Reviewer: Shane Skekel

Synopsis: If there is one game that helped define the NES, then Castlevania would be one of them. It started all the whip cracking that I grew fond of, not this Dracula X Tripe. And let us not forget Simon Belmont, the most famous member of the vampire killing family, not to mention he got a role in Captain N.

Game Play = 9
This game was the first in the series on a console after the computer game Vampire Killer. However, unlike the Microsoft/Standart MSX computer version, you don't need to catch that axe. The controls take time getting used to, much like the N64 version that many people hate (to tell you the truth I thought it turned out alright). This game ditched its predecessor's emphasis on exploration for more arcade-style gameplay.

Graphics = 7
The graphics are modified from Vampire Killer, which means that they look better in some areas, but look worse in others. Luckily, they aren't as crappy as the first Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest game. Overall, they are average, but they get the job done.

Music and sound = 8
The music is very good for an NES game even though the instrumentation is not as good as Akumajou Densetsu. Many people in the CV circles would listen to the SotN or CV Dracula X soundtracks, but this game had original music and some of the songs were used in later games. The boss theme however, gets on my nerves.

Originality = 9
This is a conversion of the computer game Vampire Killer, so I will give this category a nine.

What do I say? It's your call if you want to buy it or download a ROM. That is why I am giving this game an eight for introducing Americans to this classic whip-fest.
