Title: King's Quest 5
Author:Sierra (Published by Konami)
Rom Player: JNES
Reviewer: Zaruki

Synopsis: The King's Quest series was one of the leading Personal Computer games that revolutionized PC gaming. The main developer of the series was Roberta Williams, who made the King's Quest games in a medieval timeline with Fairytale storylines and elements that PC gamers of all ages can enjoy. King's Quest 5 was originally on the PC, but Konami made an NES port of the game, pulling off a good port.

Gameplay: The gameplay style is basically part of the adventure/RPG genre where you give commands to your character (In this case, King Graham) by grabbing or operating valuable items, talking to other living beings, or using the eye icon to identify anything of worthy notice. Similar to the Kemco games (Shadowgate/Deja Vu), there are so many ways to die and many ways to make errors somewhere in the game which can be a huge hassle. This game has a battery save feature and a password save feature that can help bookmark certain areas in the game.

Graphics: The PC version was superior compared to this NES port (What can you expect with an 8-bit system?), especially graphics. In the PC version, you get very detailed backgrounds, portraits, and graphics that resemble paintings. This game, the graphics have a simpler, but cleaner appeal, which is as far as the NES can go.

Music: There's hardly any music in many of the "Screens" you are in. There are some tunes in some screens, and they are mostly ominous. The music is okay, but the death song gets annoying, especially when you'll most likely die often. The PC game featured voices, which is something almost all NES games do not have.

Originality: Not incredibly original, especially when the game's elements and names are derived from common fairytales and folktales. However, this doesn't detract from the fun factor of this game, it's just something to note.

Overall: A fun and long adventure game that may be slow and/or frustrating because the controls are meant for the mouse. However, you can get used to the controls eventually to pull off good timing to do certain things.
