Synopsis: If I were to choose between the two arcade Contra titles then I would have to choose this one over the first one that I have also reviewed. If you want to know what Contra is, it has a single objective: Blow the Shit out of Everything!
When I used to have M.A.M.E. and this game rom, I would play it a good amount of times, but not as much as R-Type 2. If you need emulators, then head to Emu- Russia and find what need there and choose what you like the most.
Game Play: It may be similar to the first game, but you now have overhead levels that you must complete if you want to reach the next stage. Plus, the overhead areas have bombs that you can use to wipe out massive amounts of foes. However, they are hard to find and you can only carry one at a time.
Graphics: Similar to the first game, only that the backgrounds are much better animated than the original. It has the same well-animated sprites, same detailed backgrounds, etc.
Music & Sound: The music is badass, especially the song to the first stage. Then there's the sound effects that are also cool and not to mention this game has some voices in the beginning sequence. If you like kickass music in your games, then you found it.
Originality: Other than the overhead levels, voices, and bombs; not much has changed in the gameplay. Plus, there's the fact that this game has a simple storyline much like the original, but this game manages to remain fun from beginning to end.
In the end, Super Contra should be in your local arcade due to its gameplay variety and cool sound. In other words, play it immediately if you see it!
