News just in: Some people have been able to purchase copies of HL2 early, from retailers not sticking to the release date.
However valve are too smart for their own good and have the game locked via steam so it is not playable untill the official release date.

Nope whole game is locked. Connecting to steam and activateing the game is party of the installation procedure, hence the whole fuss about the game needing an internet connection even if you just want to play single player. It only needs to connect once tough, not every time you want to play.

oh yea, I reserved my copy of HL2 at my local games shop today :) . should be able to pick it up on my way back from college on tuesday (wootowotoowtowoyayayayayay). Only problem is i forgot to tell them which version i want so i guess it will have to wait and see.

I got MOHH PA today so that should keep me occipied until then. I am not very impressed with PA, it has alot of scrpited events which are cool and there are some nice graphics (dx9 shaders are looking good) but the implementation of havoc is somewhat lacking and the firefights seem kind of uninspired (so far). Roll on HL2.

That's not how Steam works. You have to validate every time you want to login and play online. In order to do that, you need a valid CD key.

ok guys well it finally worked after about 3 hours of steam doing stuff but it was worth the wait.
HL2 is without doubt the most awsome thing i have ever played in my life. It is awe inspireing.

MetalMilitia's live has been pretty uneventful.

The game is good. It plays well, it has it's share of innovative gameplay tricks, it looks great (dunno what chojin was talking about how this game is ugly) and the storyline so far is interesting, if not a bit slow-going. I've been playing for 10 hours straight or so, and I'll leave the rest of the game for tommorow. There's places where you get really scared, places where you get excited, and so far only a few bits where you get frustrated (at least on 'hard' difficulty, on which I'm playing it on, because I am not gay). So worth the wait? Hmm... well, it would have to be the second coming to live up to the hype, and it's not. It's what anyone looking at it level-headedly would expect it to be. It expands on the first game's strong points, and that's it.

Might pick up amazingly in the last quarter of the game, though.

The gravity gun is really fun.

Updateing them causes more problems than before in my expirence. But saying that i have not tried in a few months so they may have sorted their shit out.

Playing this game has given me so many mod ideas. It seems almost anything is possible with this new engine. Particularly i am looking forward placeing turrents to defend the flag in a TFC style mod and air boat raceing will be fun. Not to mention gravity gun arena.

Also they have a really gay driver download thing on the site which just gives you 'updates' instead of a full driver which is just needlesly confusing.

It's still in the airboat part, where you arrive at that hideout and they put a gun on your boat. After the vortigaunt finishes, you can keep clicking on him (use him) and he tells you about how there's a "greater master" and that Nihilanth was the lesser and that his species has been enslaved for eons.

Plus a bunch of weird philosophy stuff about people being inside you. :O

When he has nothing left to say, one of the humans will tell you to get moving.

Every time I find one of the aliens-turned-supporters I wish NPC killing was still allowed 'cause I lose a few rounds of ammo by clicking instinctively. Might as well not go to waste.

I love the super gravity gun, it rules so much to pick up enemies and launch them into eachother. Good twist on the old 'loose all your weapons' secton all FPSs seem to have.

yea thats pretty much it, well you could glue anything to anything really (except enemies could not be welded).

Other weapons i miss from the alpha:

Flare gun - set people onfire

c4 gun - Allowed you to fire about 6 bits of c4 witch looked just like the solder and they would stick to anything then when you right clicked they would all blow up.

wierd wire grenade - fired whires out when thrown which would stick to nearby walls to suspended its self in mid air.

i diddnt really like the rifle from the beta, it was wildy inaccurate and you couldnt carry that much ammo. the 'pulse rifle' (as i call it) in the final version at least looks cool

Yeah not a very good gun, though. Neither of the two rapid-fire guns are any good, really. I played in Hard and I stuck to headshoting people with the first pistol and the shotgun almost exclusively. Only for real long range stuff, I used either the pulse on one-shot-at-a-time mode, or the crossbow, if my ammo was good.

Actually, on the weapons side of thing, this game was pretty light.

I almost shit my pants when you have to drive the buggy across the bridge (after turning off the force fields) and then there's a train coming towards you when you're halfway across. I was going at full speed across the bridge and couldn't reverse all the way in time, so I got squashed.

Yea they where a bit irritateing in that part. But came in handy for taking out the turrets under the floor. You could leave the squad on teh other side of the laser that activated the turret. Then go next to the turret and out of its firerange then call the squad towards you, turret pops up, in goes grenade. job done.

near the shower rooms there is a corridor with small vent openings, these go to a little room with lots of guns and ammo. near this room (ouside the vent is a room with a wall socket and a plug, pick up the plug and put it in the socket and a high powered fan in the weapons cache will spin into motion, sucking anyone inside into a spinny death...

in single player only, you press e to pick up small items, and them press either left mouse button to throw it or right mouse button to drop it

Ok so some of you may have noticed i have not been posting quite as much recently.. no, i dont have cancer. I have been makign HL2 maps.

The first one i have deemed worthy of uploading is now available on HL2 Files.. nothing to fancy just a good old fasioned UT style rocket arena with a big laser to fry unsuspecting players.

No, it's not sprint. I've seen sprinting and I sprint all the time. I'm talking about guys who literally blink down the street and fire off a full 6 shots with the revolver in about 2 seconds.

It's not lag, either, because they have a decent ping on par with mine. :(
