I've been tempted by Villains, but I cant' bring myself to pay for another MMO each month, no matter how much I like it

I just got into this game again the other day after six months of not playing and I can't for the life of me figure these things out:
1. Can you set other weapons to hotkeys (F1, F2, F3) so you can quickly switch? So far I've been hitting F9 and leaving the inventory menu open to switch, but that obstructs my view and is a pain in the ass because I have to open it again in every new area.
2. Is there any other way to zoom the camera in and out besides the mouse wheel? Mine is fucked >:

I don't know, and I think you can use thearrow keys for the zooming.

1. yeah you can. If you don't have a custom interface, those are at the bottom right. You need space in your inventory to do it but you just drag your weapon selections to those buttons in the bottom right. F1 and F2
2. Dunno

I only have the F1 button, and it's always occupied by whatever weapon I have equipped currently.

Jan 17th, 2006, 02:32 PM
Ah yeah you have to select which weapon sets to display first. Not at home now so I can't give you a screenshot or anything at this moment.
timrpgland
Jan 19th, 2006, 12:30 PM
so you figure it out yet? Selecting which weapon sets display is selected from your inventory. The weapon sets button.

OKAY SO I KNOW LIKE NOBODY HERE PLAYS THIS ANYMORE BUT LISTEN UP
They released a new patch the other day to prepare for the Factions expansion that added a bunch of new shit >: You can testdrive the two new classes (Assassin and Ritualist) in PVP mode but not in RP mode. I don't know if you can use their skills or not but they look pretty sweet

My assassin/necro. It said all the assassin skills were locked, and you can't play them in RP mode so I don't think you can unlock the assassin skills just yet.

I do like their Moxy and their approach to MMO gaming. Guild Wars is a fantastic game, honestly, but its playerbase is just insipidly retarded. Maybe if we found some good guilds?
ziggytrix
Jan 23rd, 2006, 10:49 AM
Maybe.
But MMO's in general tend to run rampant with retards. Things like RP and non-PvP servers tend to pull in less tards, but even in an "elitist" guilds, tards will slip in, because they are like cockroaches.
The best thing about guild wars for me was the NPCs. Sometimes I just don't wanna game with some random stranger, and nobody I that know isn't an idiot (and is at a point in the game where it is even worth their time to group with me) is on.
Chojin
Jan 23rd, 2006, 11:05 AM
You can't finish most epic missions with the NPCs, though. And yeah all MMOs have an idiot majority playerbase but with Guild Wars it is a horse of an entirely different color. No CC required means it makes a great holiday gift, or birthday gift, or MOM I WANT THE BOX WITH THE PRETTY LADY ON IT gift. I mean shit, the theoretical premise on which all 90's porn sites ran is that kids don't have credit cards (Remember adultcheck? Shut up, yes you do).
That said I'm going to reinstall it soon, MAYBE TODAY, and am gonna look for some competant people. I have no expectations, though.
And RP servers just breed a different type of tard.

I got it about a week and a half ago cause a friend from work forced me to. I'm liking it. Only level 14 right now but I play pretty much every night (Kefka Grimnir).

i have officially given up on this game due to the following:
lack of an easy-to-remember "ignore" command.
seriously faggots if i cancel trade six times I DON'T WANT TO TRADE WITH YOU, DON'T FUCKING HARRASS ME >:
gonna uninstall now >:

guild wars actually was really fun for several months. of course, it was the first mmorpg-espque game i had ever played (closest thing beforehand was diablo) so now that i've tried WoW (and about an hour of CoV at my nephew's house --- wish i had the time and money for both it and WoW) i'm not sure how great it would be. i really liked the ease of just jumping into PVP with guild wars. creating characters and trying new builds was pretty rad. i still never got terribly good at the mesmer class, though i'd say i got rather good with necromancer, warrior, and elementalist. when the expansion drops, i may check it out.

I enjoy it for the change of pace. Hit level 20 a few days ago. I have a guild going (with guild hall) if anyone is interested.

are all the servers linked or anything, or would it be anyway unlikely that i would see any of you in game?
timrpgland
Feb 16th, 2006, 01:30 PM
It's all the same server so you wouldn't have trouble finding people you know that play. There are different "districts" for towns, outposts, etc.

cool, last questions (for now), i know about the lv20 cap and pvp players start at 20, but how long does leveling up take? is there grinding or anything?
and are there any trade skills
iron mitchell
Feb 16th, 2006, 01:48 PM
no trade skills and you can level to 20 in absolutely no time compared to WoW, especially after your first run through.
timrpgland
Feb 16th, 2006, 04:43 PM
yeah leveling is pretty simple. After level 20 you can still gain xp but you get 1 extra skill point at each level.
I haven't played a pure PVP character, just ran through a regular RP character. Picked up all my Droknar's Plate Mail the other day.
I just like the fact that it is fast paced. I've played many MMORPGs and this one really isn't one but I like that change of pace for now.

ok, got the game today, looks good so far, messing about with classes (and reading the manual to get to grips with the profession system).
Ninjavenom

Just dont' make any class with a Warrior secondary. It's a waste, especially a NecroWarrior or MesmerWarrior.
the_dudefather
Feb 21st, 2006, 05:39 PM
now you tell me :P
what secondry profession is good with a necromancer? was thinking either mesmer or elementalist
ziggytrix
Feb 21st, 2006, 07:36 PM
depends what ya wanna do. you wanna be able to backup heal? pick monk. you wanna nuke more, pick mesmer probably. i dunno tho, necro would prolly make a marginally better secondary than primary if you're concerned with making the very best char possible.
ask chojin how terrible a necro/war is - i'm pretty sure that's what he played to 20. for the most part any combo is gonna be decent. it's fairly difficult to make a worthless character in GW.
it's incredibly simple to be a worthless player tho. there's no shortage of those runnin about.

n/w SUCKED BALLS. Soloing was damn near impossible all the way up until 20. Try necro/monk. You will have no trouble finding a group for the two ascended dungeons if you have any necro elites and healing for a backup.
the_dudefather
Feb 21st, 2006, 08:55 PM
yeah might go necro/monk, the smiting spells and healing look cool
was concidering necro/ranger too :P

N/R is a combination i don't think i've ever actually seen. Might be handy, but only with minions.

hey now, my 20 was a n/w and i turned out just fine ;< it's actually a popular and good pair, you just don't use a lot of warrior skills - you primarily just use the weapons.

well im trying out a few things at the moment, got my lv8 necro/warrior (mainly use sever and sword attacking as far as warrior abilities go) and a lv6 elementalist/mesmer.

What i thought sucked about n/w was that i was pretty much wasting a second class slot all the way up until ascension, when you can change your secondary. The W elites are good to have, though, like the one that gives you crazy good evade. Nothing, however, will top Spiteful Spirit, which hits anywhere from like 7...25 (depending on skill points) any time the target attacks, heals, is healed, casts a spell, or receives a buff for a duration of 10...30 seconds o .o
