View Full Version : I hate Valentines Day

Soon it will be that annoying day of soppy cards, teddies, chocolates, flowers and meals out. Whilst everyone else in my year (okay, not everyone but a huge majority...) is wining and dining their lovers/partners etc. I will be nursing a large JD or bottle of wine and trying to pretend that it doesn't matter that I still have only ever had one valentines day card in my life that wasn't from my dad.
:(
I hate valentine's day the most because that was the day my financee broke off the engagement. I still haven't really forgiven him after ten years... yes I was a little kid damnit.
Anyway, I am forever skeptical on love. Even though one of the engineering lads seems to fancy me, shame I'm too damn scared to say some witty remark. I can't even say hi to metal boy when I see him on the stairs, I am a feckin coward!
Okay thats enough self pity. hahaha :) who else here hates the commercialisation of love?

Ive never had a valentine. I usually go out with friends or just stay home and play video games.
I made up a holiday on Feb 13th called "Love sucks Day"
its like an Anti-valentines day. Instead of celebrating love, you get drunk and get laid.
its a great day :(

i've always been an anti-valentine's day kind of person. i mean, why're you gonna wait till one day a year to do something special for someone you love? it's all hype.
the other day, kevin brought me this white stuffed dog with a red tail, ears, and nose, holding a little heart pillow with I <3 U on it in its mouth. he gave me a sad puppy-dog look when i called it garish. :( he was all like, "i saw it and thought it was cute and thought i'd never gotten you a stuffed animal." i was like, yah, you know i have so many of them around. :( it is soft, though. and it's the thought that counts, right? and it's not like he doesn't do sweet things for me every single day!

I happen to like Valentine's Day. It's the one day I can get shit faced and wake up by myself the next day with no regrets.

I had to put up all the damn valentines candy at Target. I cant stand looking at pink for more than a few minutes. Too damn ugly a color like that calamine lotion you rub on you when ya get chicken pox.

my first valentine's day with brian we spent taking turns vomiting into puke buckets. the next day his ex-girlfriend showed up on our doorstep with gifts for him.
for the second, i was 8 months pregnant and very crabby. i think i went to bed at 8pm after yelling about not having any pie to eat.
this year we don't have any plans. we were thinking about going out for a nice dinner, but we'll probably just stay home, order a pizza and watch a couple bruce lee flicks.

Anyway, I am forever skeptical on love.
Love and Vally's day have nothing to do with each other as I'm sure anyone with at least one braincell knows. Like Mothers and Father's day it just another tax we feel obliged to pay. I've yet to be dumped by anyone for not buying them a card/pressie on the day.
My manager who's been married for donkey's years openly admitted last week that she has to lie about the things her husband gives her on Valentine's Day (ie sweet f*** all) because she's embarrassed that he doesn't care. Damn peer pressure.
This year this bloody stupid day has left me in a quandary. I've been having a bit of a thing with a bloke for around two months. No idea how serious it will become because obviously at the mo it's still the early fun part where you still fancy each other. I have no idea about his feelings on such matters as Vally's day but kinda suspect that his ideas on the subject are similar to mine.
So do I just ignore the whole day and risk offending him if he gets me something. Or do I buy him a small pressie and then risk huge embarrassment upon realising he didn't even know what day it was and I find out he's only going with me until something better comes along? At the end of the day, nothing is certain.

Well, if it's THAT off the wall. Don't give him anything. It doesn't sound like your IN a thing, just pandering around it. No harm in dipping your who-who in chocolate and having him find the cherry (a real cherry).

Well the way I see it, its an excuse for me and the missus to do something fun and extravagant on a tuesday night. We are both of the mind that any excuse to have extra fun is mandatory.

Slinky, will you be my Valentine? :(
You live too far away Seth. :( Damnit, I bet you're the show up with real interesting flowers type too. >sighs<
This week I've managed just about nil progress with the lad I've realised I like, appart from confessing I like him to one of his classmates. I feel so damn awkard now, its just going to get even worse I can feel it now! :( Especially if I let myself fall for sneaking a card into his bag haha.
I think I will go to uni on valentines day and get notoriously drunk. It's my project week, I can do what I like so there.

I think getting notoriously drunk is a good idea, just dont do what a friend of mine did and end up getting kicked out of a taxi in Charminster, getting completly lost, falling over and inguring his head in some way, loosing his bag containing all his notes since he started uni and leaving his phone in the taxi. :lol
You might know him actally; Alex, he can usually be found in computer Labs at 1am onwards.

Ah yes, people falling out of taxis... one of my friends did that, ended up with two lovely black eyes and I had to look after him, he was very drunk!
I've taken to hiding (working) in my project room recently because its the only place that I'm guaranteed a computer the entire day. It also cuts down the number of idiots finding me and asking me to do their code for them. grrrr
p.s. all the stuff you learn in the first year is a bit of a joke, I doubt very much you'll need much of it. The only lecture you need to stay awake in is networks.

Well I've sent him a box of vegan organic chocs (cos he's into that kind of thing) anonymously. If he's impressed I'll admit it was me. If not, he can freak thinking that one of his ex's is stalking him.
