In this edition, I take a look at the Marvel Comics based on the popular TV series Sledge Hammer!, released back in 1988. This was an awesome show, and while the comics aren't exactly "awesome" themselves, they are pretty damned amusing.

ALSO!

As an added bonus for the people on the message boards, I have uploaded scans of the comics to Sendspace. It's two issues and about 25 megs total. Thanks to my friend Rachael for scanning it all in!

Download it and see all the cheese in its entirety! Unfortunately there are no classic cheesy ads included, as I only asked Rachael to scan the story pages, not wanting to impose upon her any further, as she already spent enough time on it.

I enjoyed this article a lot. I too was a huge fan of Sledge Hammer when I was little. Although I haven't seen an actual episode in a long time, I seem to remember one of the season ending cliffhangers involved a nuclear bomb in a jacuzzi. Anyway, great job and keep up the good work.

Thanks JohnBoy. And the best part about that cliffhanger you mention is that it was the end of season one. They didn't think they were going to get picked up for a second season so they just killed everyone off, but then when they unexpectedly did get picked up for season two they just called it "Sledge Hammer!: The Early Years" (a subtitle that eventually disappeared several episodes into the season). The best part was that Doreau (who Sledge met in the first episode of season one) was still his partner even though she technically wouldn't have even met him yet. I love when comedies totally ignore continuity like that.

I am aware of the error with the duplicate picture appearing twice in a row. I've already emailed Roger about this and hopefully it will be corrected soon.
Aye, that duplicate picture has been fixed. Trust me, I know what I'm doing.

Ah...tv land was so glorious in the 80's - back before they built all those condos.

BTW, the Sledgehammer pilot is up on You Tube:

I wish to thank Protoclown, not only for this fun article, but for bringing to my attention a priceless gem that I would otherwise have missed.

They've got most of the Sledgehammer episodes online, plus a couple of nice teasers:

Favourite line so for, from episode 1
"You know Doreau, I hate to admit this, but sometimes you think like a man. And I respect you for that."
