Also, I don't know how to get hides from the geckos :\

You have to do the main story line to get into the Citadel. Just focus on it until your in there then dont go back until your ready to finish the game. I dont know how far into you are but... you can skip the GNR part by just going to Rivet City and talking to Dr Lee in the science lab. From there got to the Jefferson memorial then to vault 112. Then back to Rivet City, back to Jefferson, get attacked, flee in terror, arrive at Citadel, ask the elder for power armor training, talk to power armor trainer guy.

And there you have it.

Got it for xmas and beat it yesterday.

What's that, Fawkes? You wanted to help me escape from Ravenrock, but you were too late, so now you'll have to find some other way to repay me for saving your life? Cool, having a rad-immune helper could come in handy.

What's that, Fawkes? You won't help me out with the purifier because it's my "destiny"? Wow, I never thought of it that way. I guess I figured that since you made a big stink about walking through an irradiated vault chamber for me that maybe this wouldn't be a big deal for you. Figured it would be the very least you could do, seeing as I saved you from living the rest of your life stuck in an underground cell. I mean, you pride yourself on being a smart super mutant with high-minded ideals, and this would be the perfect opportunity for you to help out humanity and prove that not all super mutants are mindless killers, but that's ok. You've got other priorities. I wonder why I had to have good karma for a selfish jerk like you to join up with me.

Also, what the hell was up with Colonel Autumn? Didn't he die when James flooded the purifier with radiation? Then he just reappears with no explanation?

Seriously, though, fuck you, Fawkes. I don't need to hear about "destiny" from an NPC whom I've known for around 20 minutes. You said you took your name from some guy who fought and died for what he believed in, but really, all you wanted was a one-syllable name that's easy to remember when you've lapsed into a super mutant bloodlust.

Persuade Rosie and Bob to run for president, then tell all the adults to cast their votes. Go back to Dave and tell him everyone's vote is in. Then, run to the ballot box in sneak mode (use a stealth boy for good measure), keep your crosshairs on it and keep trying to open it until Dave unlocks it. then, take out all of dave's ballots, and one of either bob's or rosie's ballots. Dave will throw a hissy fit about leaving for old olney and starting a new republic, run away towards old olney, and most likely gets murdered by a bear or mutant on the way there. Unless you haven't gotten his key yet, in which case you blow his head off/pick his pocket. Then report to rosie and she'll give you his safe combination.

I just finished it, and the ending made me want to cry. I mean, everybody freakin' loved me; I saved a bunch of slave children, disarmed a NUKE, and stormed a facility with a giant, hilariously anti-commie robot, then to die in one of the most straightforward ways possibly?!
Also, yeah, Fawkes WAS a dick like that. who are the other people that I can tag along with, and where are they? I have Fawkes and Dogmeat; I just keep Dogmeat at the Vault, because he's too awesome to die. Which he does. Very quickly.

This game's entertainment value goes up when you think of some of the quests as some kind of weird future allegory of american history.

Like when you help the 'union' (including hannibal hamlin) free the southeastern part of the map from slavers. Except you have high tech armor and there are lasers. And when the 'railroad' employs you to free a slave. and he's an android.

Or when you have to get the declaration of independence. From a robot. With a powdered wig. Even better you can program a backup protectron with thomas jeferson's personality, although all robojefferson does is blare GNR radio really loud and wander around.

The wig you can get from that quest is great. I like to wear it with tenpenny's suit because it makes me look like george washington.

I've avoided this thread like the plague (had to wait for Xmas for the game). No need for me to say how great this game is. Pretty much everything that can be said has been said, but fuck it, here's my take:

The bad:
Topping out at lvl 20
Graphical glitches
Not enough songs/banter on GNR
Short main quest (though I figured that out by the day after Xmas and left that shit alone till tonight)

The good:
Atmosphere (I especially loved the little stories that bodies, items, and buildings sometimes told)
Voice overs
VATS combat
It felt like a Fallout game more than an Elder Scrolls game. I enjoy both, but I was worried about the reverse being true.

The great:
This game is fucking enthralling like few I've ever played. Despite glitches, too few enemy types, and a bunch of other legitimate problems, the game never ceases to be fun and challenging.

They need to hurry up and release the DLC for this mofo.

I'd been stockpiling ammo of every type the whole game; it doesn't weigh you down, so I'd take ammo every time I saw it. By the time I got my plasma rifle, I had a good 800 rounds or so for it.
Also, in my haste, I only grabbed one. :(
Where can I get Lincoln's repeater, and the unique plasma gun?

executioneer
Jan 7th, 2009, 01:54 AM
unique plasma gun is gotten from helping the android, find out more about it in the science lab in rivet city

no idea about lincoln's repeater as i haven't found it yet, my guess is in a monument or museum of history of some sort

Dr. Boogie
Jan 7th, 2009, 04:54 AM
But don't just fork over the component that nosy chick gives you. Do that, and you get jack. Not the unique ripper, "Jack", I mean nothing.

Lincoln's repeater is in the Museum of History in the offices, along with a bunch of other Lincoln memorabilia you can sell to the museum curator in Rivet City, or the leader of the escaped slaves in the Temple of the Union. It's in a special display case. I think it's the only unique weapon that has a different model, and a unique Vault Boy icon.

executioneer
Jan 7th, 2009, 05:20 AM
and different ammo!

OxBlood
Jan 7th, 2009, 05:23 AM
Also: If you get the rifle from the android, go and rat him out to Zimmer to get the wired reflexes perk. Then proceed to kill Zimmer and his Bodyguard before they reach the android (Karma gain will be 0. +200 for helping the android, -200 for ratting him out).

Lincoln´s Repeater uses Magnum Ammo if I´m not mistaken. But I actually prefer Ol´painless. Weaker but far more Ammo for free (since it´s just the unique Hunting Rifle)

Dr. Boogie
Jan 7th, 2009, 04:33 PM
I keep em both around. Ol Painless for walking around, the repeater for tough spots. High damage and zero spread, that's a keeper.

If it used .32 rounds, I wouldn't use anything else.

LordSappington

That is the best weapon! I got it early and have just been using it. I also picked up that slave girl you can buy in Paradise Falls. Give her some Merc armor a .44 and you wont even have to pull out your gun unless you are getting swarmed. She guns raiders down faster than I can pull out my rifle.

Has anyone done Bannon's request? Its not an actual quest but if you go to Rivet City and talk to Bannon he tells you he would appreciate it if "someone" would "find" something incriminating in some guy whos name I dont remember right now. Has anyone successfully done this? I have been in the guys room and taken everything I could carry back to Bannon. I have gone back and done it where I leave everything in there but make sure to look at everything. I have even hacked the guys computer but I havent found anything. I thought maybe I should plant something in his room then tell Bannon? What would I plant in there to incriminate him? Chems? Guns? They sell it all legally in Rivet City.

On the subject of Rivet City... Has anyone told that kid to run away from home. Then he does and no one cares about him, only his friend that ran away with him CJ Young. Can you do anything with this after they run away? Every time I fast travel to Rivet City I see the girl running across the bridge out of town buy she wont talk to me.

In Seagraves' room, under his bed leaning against a footlocker I think, you find a holotape called "Seagraves' incriminating letter". It's a letter from his old slaver buddies trying to get into the city. You bring that to Bannon, then you bring it to Danvers, this female guard who sleeps during the day in the bridge tower. Then you go back to Bannon, and he gives you a discount at his store and the schematics for the Deathclaw Gauntlet.

And the runaway kid only goes as far as the first subway station north of Rivet City. You can get him to come back, but I usually don't bother because he's annoying.

Zomboid
Jan 14th, 2009, 12:35 PM
The shiskebab is pretty effective. I used a lot of melee weapons on my first playthrough, and that weapon always stood out as being much better than anyone else I had.

I think the most useful setup I've had so far was in my first game, where I maxed out big guns and had decent small guns skills. I destroyed everything within short range with the flamer and used the Reservist's rifle for long range. The flamer is incredibly powerful if you max out big guns and get the pyromaniac perk. Plus, you don't need to use VATS. One time, there was a shitload of Talon mercs coming at me, and I just sniped em all from afar using the missile launcher.

The 3 shot clip on the reservist's rifle kinda sucks, but I think it's better all-around than the other unique one.

Can be repaired with common sniper rifles.
Has an extremely high critical percent multiplier of x5.
Players with ten luck, Finesse (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Finesse) (+5%), and Survival Guru (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Survival_Expert) (+3%), will be able to critical nine out of ten shots! ((10+5+3)*5)=90%.
Achieving 18%MDPS will give the Reservist's Rifle an effective DPS of 122!
Costs 6AP less to shoot in V.A.T.S. (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/V.A.T.S.) compared to other sniper rifles (32AP vs 38AP).
Uses 3 rounds instead of 5 in each magazine.
Reservist's Rifle has better durability (+50%) than regular sniper rifles.
Of all sniper rifles the Reservist's Rifle has the fastest rate of fire.I can attest to the points about the high criticals :O

B) He doesn't even know what canon means and (see A).
C) He thinks that for any additional quests to be canon, they have to alter the ending. In other words (see A and B)

Seriously, that's it. Everything in the game, including all DLC, is fallout canon. It's an official game in the series and I don't know what the fuck is so difficult to understand about that.

Have you played the mission? See what Fathom said.

I explained what he meant, not what I think about that downloadable quest. He dismisses it as non-canon (not really the correct word to use, true) because it doesn´t have an impact on the Wasteland, so "unimportant" would be correct. But some of the other sidequests were unimportant too, so who cares. And I´m not defending anyone, I´m explaining shit, because I like to do that ;)

I personally don´t care about it very much, 3 Weapons, 4 pieces of armor and one worthless perk (or I misunderstood the description. 3 points in 3 skills is nothing) are not the things I would want for Fallout right now.

Dr. Boogie

I don't understand why people are willing to pay 10 bucks to see a movie that is 90 minutes long, but not pay 10 bucks for 90 minutes of interactive fun that you can then play anytime after that.

Dr. Boogie

I don't understand why people are willing to pay 10 bucks to see a movie that is 90 minutes long, but not pay 10 bucks for 90 minutes of interactive fun that you can then play anytime after that.

The reason I'm against that is because $10 can get you a lot more than a little over an hour of fun in Fallout 3. Hell, you could get the entire Bionic Commando Rearmed game for less than that. My standards are just too high.

Plus, you're not even getting a real FO3 quest. You can't interact with any objects, you can't search any of the people you kill, and you can only get health and ammo from special health and ammo stations. It's more like they're just borrowing a level from Call of Duty.

And as for the movie ticket comparison, when do you draw the line on that? Why not just buy every 360 game? Is $60 really that much more than $10? As long as you get at least 6 hours of gameplay out of each, you're still breaking even.

Zomboid
Feb 4th, 2009, 03:33 PM
I don't get 6 hours of enjoyment out of a lot of games. I tried bionic commando: rearmed, and I just didn't like it enough to buy it.

I've been putting off installing this for a while now because I didn't want it affecting my final year exams. With them over I've finally got it installed and it's a good thing I did wait because it's eating a lot of my time. Awesome game.

I've kind of put the main quest on hold for a while and I'm just working working though a ton of side-quests. The only thing is I keep stumbling back into main-quest plot points by exploring. Hope it doesn't ruin the story too much.

Once you get Dr Lee and her group of cronies to the Citadel, you just ask the elder if you can be trained. He tells you to go talk to some guy who is normally in the conference area of I think A Ring.

The power armor is great. I like all of the different power armors for different things. The medic armor was really fun, but I switched to Tesla for my evil, energy weapons using guy. I got some unique outcast armor on my first playthrough, and that was really effective too.

Finally completed this. Really annoying that you can't continue to play after the main quest is complete. You should at least have the option to go back to just before the last part of the quest and explore a bit more. By the time I realised the game was finishing it was too late and I couldn't escape the plot.

Dr. Boogie
Feb 20th, 2009, 09:16 PM
It creates a separate save file when you enter the memorial, but that's it.

They're supposedly fixing it in one of the upcoming DC releases.

It's better that way, believe me.

MetalMilitia

Yeah I had a quick save at just before the robot reached the water treatment place so I loaded that up and escaped into the wilderness. I kind of hate it though because it feels like I'm breaking the games. It's weird, I shouldn't care because I can still pick up quests and whatnot but it has removed a great deal of immersion for me.

Oh and one other thing that annoyed me at the end:

When I had to go into the room and die from radiation I still had my radiation-immune super mutant buddy standing right next to me. Why couldn't he have done it?! Also the control panel was so damn close to the door... I could've just punched in the three digits with a broom or something and been fine. It was a bit of a lame ending.

You mentioned immersion being broken, but wouldn't it be a bigger immersion-breaker if you just popped up outside the memorial after the credits?

At any rate, I heard a rumor that they plan to fix the crap with Fawkes at the end, as well as not being able to continue playing after the end. Last I heard, they were talking about doing that for the Broken Steel expansion.

MetalMilitia

lol

and

Yeah it's true but they should've just made it so the end of the game wasn't this big event but rather the days after where people kind of know something went on but it's not had time to have any significant impact on the world. That way we could merrily wander the wasteland until the sequel or expansion comes out. :(

here's a breakdown of exactly how i reacted to the end sequence
first off, naturally, since i had fawkes with me, i asked HIM to do it. even though, y'know, i actually managed to get the GECK without his help, i figured THIS one he'd need to do for me... no? FUCK OK
i go in and don't spot the control panel right in front of the door. Why? because obviously if it's RIGHT FUCKING THERE how the hell is the radiation gonna be too dangerous to survive and not be really dangerous levels right outside the door?
so then i do an entire loop of the "dangerous area". whoops, i'm still not dead! then i see the keypad. being a little frustrated, i have no fucking clue what the code is. i punch in about four different combos. no luck, but still not dead.
so i turn around and try to talk to my companions thru the glass. doesn't work, still not dead. jump up and down and shoot at them a few times. no effect, still not dead. then i guess it blew up or something, my rad levels were still not too bad, but i died.
THEN i remembered about the bible passage, but couldn't remember which one, so after i reloaded, i listened to the journal entries until i found it, opened door, keyed in numbers, then my dude keels over instantly from the oh-so-lethal radiation :rolleyes
then i reloaded, and killed fucking fawkes with nuka-grenades and kept throwing them at paladin lyons until the reactor went critical or whatever
then i made her go in and do it, and i was glad to see her die cause she was still a "critical NPC" and no amount of grenades woulda killed her otherwise
then i started a new character and killed everyone killable in vault 101 and megaton

SUFFICE TO SAY I WAS A LITTLE MIFFED

Dr. Boogie
Feb 22nd, 2009, 03:05 PM
And then when you make Lyons do it, suddenly she's the hero. I only put this whole damn project together, and all she did was one little thing at the end.

Fathom Zero
Oct 17th, 2009, 02:21 PM
Its crashed on me less than the 360 version did, BUT the DLC's are utter shit.

There is so much slow-down and so many freezes that even I can't ignore them. I would not buy them if the content itself wasn't worth it. Point Lookout didn't break as much as Broken Steel was; that was a goddamn slideshow.

Then again, I played the 360 versions and the DLC ran as smooth as the main game did, so it's your call.

PS, I have the PS3 version. The main game is not so crashy, but the DLC is broken. If you're not heavy into Fallout, it's not worth the potential misery.

I've been sort of ocd-ing it up trying to get max skill and max special stats by the time I reach 30. And trying to do this before I start a single mission.

And its practically designed to be flawlessly replayable. The wasteland is so distinct and varied, with no square mile looking the same that I could explore this game fore another 3 games and not feel too familiar with it.
