Donnie Brasco (Extended edition)

I'm a huge fan of mob movies and this one ranks pretty high on my all-time favorites list. Cool scenes, good dialogue and gritty violence. The acting is also great all around, but Pacino pretty much steals the show. It ain't no Goodfellas, but a must-see nontheless for fans of the genre.

While that was a somewhat interesting abstract it doesn't really add anything to what i said. it's written specifically about neurotic minds and even says that some of them (paranoids) aren't suicidal.
in fact it only says that sad people are suicidal :O

it wasn't with mind control they released a chemical which causes people to lose their inhibitions.

right? did i miss the twist at the end where it turns out they were just mind controlling everybody and not releasing a chemical? I thought thats why they were always like YON ILL WIND though.

Was up late the other night feeding the baby and had a chance to watch City of Ember with Bill Murry. I tried watching 30 days of night, but I couldn't get halfway through it without becoming bored. It looks nice, but way too much unneeded story. I think that movie would have been way better with more mystery to the characters. Too many movies try to paint a full picture of the characters in my opinion.

kahljorn
Jan 13th, 2010, 06:53 PM
I kind of liked that movie but maybe it was because i was babysitting at the time and it was the only thing on tv ;/

it has a good ending though at least. I don't really remember them painting many pictures though ;/ did you get to when the vampires start fucking the town up?

Tadao
Jan 13th, 2010, 06:58 PM
Yeah, that was the middle, and then it went into story mode. I tried skipping ahead and found nothing but story. When it airs on scifi I'll probably give it a full chance.

Oh, I forgot, I watched the Silent Hill movie. I haven't had the chance to play the games, but the acting was good enough for a game movie (ex. Resident Evil) and the graphic were pretty cool. I happily watched it all the way through, which is becoming increasingly hard for me. It'll take me 6 hours to get through a 90 minute movie usually.

Did the movies story follow any of the game stories?

The basic premise was from the first Silent Hill (daughter missing after the car accident), but the rest of the plot has nothing to do with any of the games. Altough there are some scenes and characters which are copied from the first three games, I think.

Watched a couple of movies today.

The Hangover was dumb as fuck, but better than I thought it would be. Why does Heather Graham always play a slut or stripper or porn star or something? Also, the older she gets the more she looks like Julianne Moore to me.

Lot more male full-frontal than I was expecting.

Then I watched an indie film called Local Color. It was about the artist-director's life as he came of age in the 70s, befriended a cranky-old-man mentor and Learned Things. It was a well-crafted movie, but I'm embarrassed to say I fell asleep for a good 45 minutes of it and didn't really feel like I missed much when I woke up and watched the rest. Also, the guy had these raging mutton chops and for some reason that was really distracting.

Can't wait for the sequel. My only real complaint is when Holmes literally dodges a bullet in one scene, and in another, Watson gets his shit wrecked during one incident and is up and walking the next day. Other than that, great stuff.

It was a small theater, and I could see people barely keeping the cries of agony, one guy who was annoyingly jocular as we were going in was destroyed by this movie (well, I bet he was) enough that he had to get up and leave never to return.

Just saw Ponyo. I never thought I'd put the words "Miyazaki" and "rush job" together, but that's unfortunately what I was thinking through the whole film.

Don't get me wrong, it has some AMAZING imagery and the dub isn't really that bad (it isn't nearly as good as other Disney Ghibli dubs though) but the story is all over the place pacing wise, some places it drags along, some places it breezes by without a second to piece together what exactly is going on.

My biggest problem with the story is the ending. Everything is resolved, yes, but it ends so suddenly and so anti-climatically that you feel something was cut in the US release (which I don't believe is the case). Everyone in the universe has already complained about the dopey theme song and it's completely unnecessary Autotune-remix so I'm not going to complain about it any more here.

It has it's moments, but IMO Ponyo is nowhere near Miyazaki's other films, his true classics.

I don't regret buying the DVD though, that Toy Story 3 trailer is funny as hell and I CANNOT WAIT to see the movie.

The Woody movie is called Defendor, and I actually built some props for it - it was filmed and takes place just outside of Toronto in Steel Town (Hamilton, Ont). It's not your typical comedy superhero movie. It's actually pretty deep. I saw it on the indy film fest circuit and enjoyed it. Just don't watch it expecting a typical comedy.

As for going out to movies, there is a local Rainbow Cinema in downtown Toronto that I'm visiting almost weekly as Tuesday afternoon are just 4 bucks. Saw 'Hot Tub Time Machine' last week and 'How to Train Your Dragon' the week before.

There are also some great grind houses here in the city, old revival theaters like the Bloor Cinema (http://bloorcinema.com/schedule/) (which is almost all cult and classic films - Just saw Raiders of the Lost Arc on 8mm there along with the original Hellraiser). They've been showing Rocky Horror on the last Friday of the month for years.

There are also quite a few n0n-profit theaters as well that show cult and classic films.

The Baader-Meinhof complex. It was okay.

That's what I thought. It seemed so typically German.

Did you get the full frontal child nudity?

You know, the minute I saw them leading with that (and again later in some Vietnam footage), the first thing I thought of was liquidstatik.

:(

Have you watched Sophie Scholl: Die letzten Tage? It's much better.

No, I haven't seen it. I'll keep an eye out for it.

The first thing I did was look around the cinema expecting OUTRAGE and noticed that everyone was trying very hard not to be. ART.

I was surprised by it, then I remembered it was German and that on one visit to Germany I turned on the TV and saw Heidi boffing first her grandpa, then a goat.

Martyrs (2008) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1029234/

Hard to watch, but an excellent movie nontheless. The plot was unpredictable and the movie went seamlessly from a creepy horrorflick into a full blown torturefest and still managed to stay away from exploitation. The ending was great. Higly recommended for anyone who isn't bothered by very graphic violence.

I've got about 20 documentaries in my Netflix instant queue I need to get going on.

I love the hell out of that netflix instant thing, even though right now you have to have a disc to watch it on the PS3 or Wii. I'D LIKE TO SEE THE NEIGHBORS STEAL MY STREAMING DATA.

They'll probably find a way :(

If you have a 360 you dont even need a disc. Or if you can connect your PC to your TV.

I don't want a console. Too much time and money wasted on bad games. I'd rather buy the Netflix tv adapter.

Oh it so is. I was kinda the same way. I remembered it being really good but I forgot some of the lines he used. Especially the barber shop scene.

When the kid comes in and says the exact same thing Clint did and they both look at him and ask "WTF is wrong with you?!" :lol
