View Full Version : Steam Christmas Sale

We've all seen it. It's going on til Jan. 3rd.

So, what yall gonna get? I got Champions Online($10.19, less than the actual membership), and I bought myself Rainbow Six Vegas 2($6.49?) for myself and my brothers.

Any suggestions on fun multiplayer games that are on sale right now? Maybe a cool indie game that you already have and want to tell us about?

Steam is going all out this year!

So far I've gotten:
Warrior Within
The Two Thrones
Beyond Good and Evil
Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30

This totals to 20 dollars. :picklehat

I've got Psychonauts and Braid in my shopping cart for 12 bucks, but I'm hesitating. I know I will eventually, though.

Team Fortress Classic is under 4 dollars right now, but I have no idea whether or not people still play it. Plus, you know, I've got TF2, which is pretty much perfect.

Dead Space is 11 dollars, but I'm sure I couldn't run it.

from the i-mock chat thread

crayon physics, gish, both indiana jones lucasarts games, both oddworlds, star wars jedi knight pack, and star wars KOTOR

and i'm thinking of buying more, but my laptop sucks. that's why i usually stick to the super old or low res games. i want fucking fallout 3 to work because i would buy it in a second but i doubt it :(

Jade Empire for 4 dollars.

I have no idea what it is, but I was thinking "KOTOR in magical China" when I saw a little footage of it.

I also bought some games for other people just for the hell of it, but I'm probably already set back about 40 bucks by all the stuff I've gotten. The absolute last thing I'm going to buy is Psychonauts.

...No it won't be. Goddamnit, good deals, stop stealing my money.

can smeone explain me how exactly does steam works?

Guitar Woman
Dec 30th, 2009, 02:39 AM
You buy games, they're registered to your account forever, and you can download them on any computer as long as you're using your account.

My internet is slow as fuck, though, so it's going to take a week of solid downloading to actually get every game I bought. That and Steam is a little fucking buggy piece of shit that crashes at least twice daily and won't listen to me when I tell it to pause a download.

Like, I'll tell it to stop, right, so I can play some TF2. Then, when I connect to a server, my ping jumps to 400. I alt tab to catch Steam trying to quickly pause the download again. I resume the download, pause it and make sure it stays that way, go back to the game, and after the server I'm on switches maps the little bastard will start downloading again.

It's like when you tell a child to stay out of the fucking cookie jar, leave them alone for 5 minutes, then coming back to catch them stealing cookies. You beat them, tell them to stay the fuck out of the cookie jar, and then come back in another five minutes to find the little shits stealing more fucking cookies.

The weird thing is that it absolutely refuses to download when I'm playing an offline game that's still a Steam app. Fucking hate Steam; if these were all just deals I could use for normal retail copies of games, I'd go to a store and buy them.

executioneer
Dec 30th, 2009, 09:33 PM
i think it depends on the game, most games don't require you to be online but they usually require steam to be running

There's an offline mode option, but it's more or less a joke

Through all my complaining, I got Max Payne 2 and Left 4 Dead at a total price of 10 dollars today. That makes about 10 games I've bought during this thing for 50 dollars. :(

I'm not even sure if I've got room on my hard drive for all this stuff, but I'd feel silly if I missed buying anything at prices like this.

Champions Online isn't really that bad. I mean I'm playing with three of my friends, so that is probably why, but even so it was def worth 10.19 + membership (14.99 for 60 days total).

I'm not much of an MMO man, so my opinion on this being a good game or not probably doesn't carry much weight.

Has anyone else had any experience with Champions Online?

arx fatalis (is this any good idk)
the lucasarts adventure pack (the dig, indiana jones and fate of atlantis/last crusade, loom
painkiller:black
psychonauts
sam&max complete
titan quest (might be good idk)

man its too bad i already bought sam and max s1, oh well

OxBlood
Jan 2nd, 2010, 09:28 AM
Arx is quite okay, a bit like Ultima Underworld. It´s just really REALLY ugly to look at. Titan Quest was considered one of the best Diablo-Clones when it came out and it´s still an okay game, though I like Torchlight better.

Right now I´m SO bored, even though I have so many unfinished games lying around...I hate that. My mind is set on FF13 and Mass Effect 2 and doesn´t want to play anything else...well, maybe Darksiders but I can´t afford buying more than one game a month until I get back into the working world...fuck that crap...

Yes, i preordered it and it sucked.

Xanadu plays it though! I'll have to find out what his name is on there.

Pentegarn
Jan 3rd, 2010, 11:32 AM
I haven't reached the 'it sucked' level of feeling about Champions yet. But I do have misgivings about not being able to stay interested in it past level 10. That might be alt-itis though. Superhero games tend to make me make lots of goofy characters.

Chojin
Jan 3rd, 2010, 12:34 PM
I feel guilty for not liking champions, and I feel that I really should get into it since I liked COH/COV so much.

I don't know what it is, but the game isn't satisfying at all to play. Even the neatest shit like swinging from a grappling gun somehow becomes old hat after 10 minutes.

Pentegarn
Jan 3rd, 2010, 12:48 PM
I agree with that. I felt COH/COV was more polished in game play. Maybe Champions just needs a year to get better. COH wasn't as good as now when it first went live.

Time will tell I suppose.

Chojin
Jan 3rd, 2010, 02:56 PM
COH wasn't as good as now when it first went live.

I think it was. It had some bugs, but the gameplay's pretty much been the same since day 1.

Champions is physically set up differently, to be more linear in format like a cross between COH and Guild Wars. For some reason, it doesn't work.

Man it's all good. You probably have about 423246324 more hours of MMO time than me, so this game is probably pretty tame or whatever in comparison to some of yer other shi*.

I was trying to be thrifty. Not buy a bunch of games I'd never play but seeing everything at full price. I'm filled with regret.

I regret not buying Stalker for $2 because I wasn't sure it would play on my computer.
I regret buying Civilizations 4 without its expansion packs because I wasn't sure I'd like it.
I regret not buying Gish, The Orange Box, Multiwinia/Darwinia, Aquaria

My Steam ID is KingHadas by the way. I only have one multi-player game on my account though, Civilizations IV.
