Why I Think Steve Oedekerk Rules

There are many reasons why I think Steve Oedekerk is the funniest man alive. How
did I find out about him? Well, I used to watch a VH-1 comedy hour a few years ago and it
had comedians from all over the place on it. I remember seeing Larry Miller do a hilarious
act about "The 10 Levels of Drunkeness", and it was ingenious. Later on,
however, I saw a new guy, Steve Oedekerk, come on TV and he was holding up one of those
fake plastic severed heads that you would see in some cheap production B-movie. All of a
sudden, the speakers in the building had a deep voice come on.
I AM THE PSYCHIC SEVERED HEAD!
I started laughing out loud. This Steve Oedekerk was a pretty goofy guy. He told the crowd
that he was going to blindfold the head and prove it's psychic capabilities to them. The
head was to guess what object Steve Oedekerk had taken into his posession from somewhere
in the crowd. The recording of the head speaking went in almost perfect time with what
Steve said. After the head listed almost every object in the universe such as "a
bat?", Steve replied "No", then a brief pause came along.....and the head
spoke, "Any kind of leather???", and I couldn't stop laughing. After a bunch of
more guesses, the head finally proved it's powers by guessing that the object in Steve's
hand was an ashtray. The crowd cheered as the head announced with pride:
I AM THE PSYCHIC SEVERED HEAD!
Besides the Psychic Severed Head, Steve had all sorts of neat ideas. I noticed that the
tape recorder seemed to be one of his best friends. In the middle of his act,
Steve
stopped and then started walking around as if he were modeling his clothes. Then, a goofy
voice came on the speakers announcing that "Steve is wearing a coat by...." as
if it were a fashion show. Again, I felt my stomach hurting due to all of my laughter. He
even had this robotic baby doll with a tape recorder in it. And it would make all of these
"goo goo ga ga" noises, and then Steve would tell it to be quiet but it just
kept going. So he'd smack it, and in perfect time, the tape recorder would play a sound of
the baby getting hit and then it would start crying. It was great, and I couldn't believe
how well rehearsed it was. Plus, he made the baby sit up and it's head spun around in
circles just like in the Exorcist.
Well, time passed on and on and my only salvation for seeing this man was
seeing the same act repeated on VH-1 from time to time. Then they stopped airing the show
and I worried that I would never see Oedekerk again. Luckily, I came across what would
prove to be the ultimate comedic portrayal on everyday life:
HIGH STRUNG
Steve Oedekerk starred in this movie and after watching it just once, it was already my
favorite movie of all time. I spread the word on to some friends of mine, and we were
basically all in agreement that it was THE movie to see! Now, several years have passed
since I first saw High Strung and I'd say I've seen it 40-50+ times now. Obsessive?
Probably, but I've also shown it to a lot of people and not just watched it myself. I
really love seeing people's reaction to the movie. People either think it's the funniest
thing they've ever seen or that it's way too annoying. Whether it's his rants about
relationships or his discussion about how children's books like "Happy The Clam"
are keeping them mindless, High Strung proves to be an insanely comedic movie.
So there you have it, that should explain a little bit as to why I am such a huge fan of
Steve Oedekerk. I feel that he doesn't get the credit he deserves to be honest. Sure, he
makes real good money from writing/directing movies like the "Ace Ventura"
series or the "Nutty Professor" or his other reality based comedy, "Nothing
To Lose". But I still feel that he deserves to have his name in every household. I'm
hoping that enough people see his superb comedy on September 9 when his 1-hour
cyber-comedy special, "Steve.Oedekerk.com", airs on NBC. My VCR will be
programmed WELL IN ADVANCE to tape the event. This is my superbowl....
Currently I'm on a mission to find two of the reported Oedekerk television sightings. He
has appeared on Politically Incorrect, with bill Maher, but I was unfortunate enough to
miss that episode. I have found the Politically Incorrect web site and I'm going to get a
copy of the TEXT for show he appeared on (word for word), but I still would like a video
copy of it as well. He has also appeared on the show "Full House". My friend saw
it and said he was competing against "Joey" on Star Search in a comedy
competition and he won. He supposedly had some hilarious shiny disco jacket type thing....
So if any of you have information on where I could obtain copies of these, PLEASE send me
email! Thanks!
