FS That would be a nice testing of this newborn Middle Eastern "democracy."

mburbank If you enter a chunk of that verbatim into Google you'll find other sources.

Here's the thing I find amusing about that. Now that Iraq has a 'sovereign' government, there's nothing to prevent them re-writing those laws.

Either they will, in which case we will have to forcibly object or eat it, or they won't, in which case they will be demonstrating to their people that they are on the take, which is harly advisable at a time when your country tottles on the brink of civil war. It's a nice mess, and the part I like best is that if we didn't have a total pig at the trough mentality, it's an aspect of the mess we could have easily avoided.

Quote:
Order #39 allows for the following: (1) privatization of Iraq’s 200 state-owned enterprises; (2) 100% foreign ownership of Iraqi businesses; (3) “national treatment” of foreign firms; (4) unrestricted, tax-free remittance of all profits and other funds; and (5) 40-year ownership licenses. Thus, it allows the U.S. corporations operating in Iraq to own every business, do all of the work, and send all of their money home. Nothing needs to be reinvested locally to service the Iraqi economy, no Iraqi need be hired, no public services need be guaranteed, and workers’ rights can easily be ignored. And corporations can take out their investments at any time.
Gotta catch 'em all.
