Royal Tenenbaum Well, we should kill people for Linkin Park, Dashboard, and Collective Soul, who suck just as hard as the first two.
Sep 18th, 2003 12:46 PM
CastroMotorOil Listen to Linkin Park cuz they are SOOOOO AWESOME

Seripouly, collective soul will always have a soft spot in my heart, so many great songs.

Just don't start listening to dashboard confessional. If you do, we will have to kill you.

sspadowsky So now we know what happened to Wurzel after he left Motorhead.

Jeanette X I reccommend "A Basket of Roses" by the Newark Balkan Chorus. Its Balkan chanting, and its always good to try something new.
I also suggest "Passage" by The Empire Brass Quintet. It has some very interesting and unusual music from ancient and early medival times, with new arrangements.

HailS8n I highly recommend a band called Isis. They're not very well known, which is good, and they really are quite talented. Oceanic is the album I'd go for.

Royal Tenenbaum "Royal Tenenbaum: I have it already. "

Ok, then get some Uncle Tupelo, Ryan Adams, Whiskeytown, Wilco, Son Volt, and some Jay Farrar.

wachador52 I think Cafe Tacuba's pretty great. They haven't gotten that much recognition here in the US but they've played a couple of festivals...i think they did Coachella this year and they're probably on tour again. If anyone wants to hear em, they have songs on their website (www.cafetacuba.com.mx) from their last album Cuatro Caminos. It's different from their earlier stuff, but they're always chaging so..

Helm Listen to Deathrow. Coroner. Psychotic Waltz.

or Can, yeah. They're pretty good.
Sep 15th, 2003 10:19 PM
Drew Katsikas If you listen to Can, it's really difficult to find shit based on the band name alone. E.g. Dead CAN dance, other shit that isn't Can. So, try searching for an album, I say start with Tago Mago.

I'm not that famous.

And if MP3.com isn't working, I'm not sure what to tell you.

Skulhedface Thanks for the suggestions so far. I haven't yet chekced any of them out, but stupid me, I took a nap after I got home from work so I'll be up all night.

Those CDs would take quite awhile to list, but for the most part, it's all alternative or metal.

Going through this post by post:

Drew: Nope, I've never heard of Can. I'll give them a listen.

Glowbelly: Never heard of either of them, what kind of music are they? The genre won't make me NOT listen to them, I just want to have an idea of what I'm going to hear.

Zhukov: Yes, I have lots of classical. Mostly well known classical though, like Beethoven and Bach, composers like that. I like classical, but I have a soft spot for dramatic classical, kind of like "Flight Of The Valkyries".

Ninjavenom: I'm getting started listening to them right now

Perndog: I also already have a lot of video game music. But what I'm interested in is more symphonic video game music, like you'd find in a Castlevania or Final Fantasy game. I already have these, but I'd like some more along those lines.

Also, I don't mind techno remixes of some video game music, but I prefer quality ones. About 90% of the remixes you can find off Kazaa suck much ass.

Rongi: I'm listening to it right now. The first song I picked out just finished.

Royal Tenenbaum: I have it already.

Schimid: Is any of your shit on Kazaa? For some reason, mp3.com doesn't like me.

Ooner: I like metal, alternative, industrial, classical, blues and funk for the most part.

I've heard of most of those bands you listed, but did not care for some of them. Flaming Lips stood out in particular, I have every Flaming Lips album I could gte my hands on already.

Drew Katsikas As much as I like Radiohead, I wish at least someone here listened to Can, who basically set the blueprint for the Kid A album with their album, "Future Days", aptly titled. Radiohead even has an an obscure mp3 of their live version of "the Theif", which is a Can song. I reccomend it to skhuled and everyone else here, becuase everyone else seems to be a Radiohead fanatic.
Sep 15th, 2003 09:14 PM
Ooner I don't know what kind of music you like.

Most of these you probably already have and like or know and hate, but they make up a decent part of my mp3s and maybe there's something you'll like:

Spoon*
The Dandy Warhols*
The Flaming Lips*
The Faint
Belle and Sebastian
Beulah
Aimee Mann
Hot Hot Heat*
Ben Folds
The Pixies*
Cake
Bright Eyes
Enon
Figurine
Mirah
Ladytron
Poe
Q and not U
Radiohead*
and more Radiohead
The Avalanches
The Breeders
The Living End
Squarepusher
Tsunami Bomb
Stephen Malkmus
Modest Mouse

I put stars on the ones I really like a whole lot.

Royal Tenenbaum You need the Gram Parsons' CD "GP/Grevious Angel." It's extremely cheap and contains two of the greatest albums of all-time.

Zhukov You are going to have to list your 500 CD's, that way people will know what not to recomend.

Have you tried classical music?
Sep 15th, 2003 07:10 AM
glowbelly mr mitchell got me hooked on the mountain goats.

erm...if you've never heard x, you should go get the anthology right this very moment.

Drew Katsikas Ever heard of Can? They were a German pyscedelic band from the 70's, that was sorta inspired by the Velvet Underground, but not too much. I reccomend Tago Mago by them, if you're into addictive drum beats and insane vocal performances. If you're looking for a certain son, download the 18 minute halleluwah.

By the way, rumor is that Can stands for Cannibalism Anarchism Nihilism.
