I had just set out the turkey. It was finally done and the sweet potato casserole had about three minutes left in the oven. Ashley had been complaining of cramps all morning which is a typical pre-labor sign. I figured she might have the baby soon... Just please not during Thanksgiving Dinner. It's my favorite meal of the year. Turkey. Mashed Potatoes. Sweet Potatoes. Green Bean Casserole. Creamed Corn Casserole. Rolls. Gravy. Stuffing. Just as I reached for an oven mitt to take out the final dish, my wife yells, "MY WATER BROKE!" and begins to panic. We call the doc and she tells us to come in now. I cover all the dishes with foil and place them in the fridge. I grab the car keys. My final act was to turn off the oven... quite symbolic. It's been four days and I still haven't had that dinner. |
