The One and Only... What do you think I'll grow up to be like?

mburbank That was, without any doubt the most exciting thread opener ever.

I can't decide which would be sadder. If you really are fifteen and this is what you are like, or if you're lying about being fifteeen.

Both possibilities seem too awful to contemplate.

Re: A non-controversial philosophy thread?

Rationalistic or Empiricistic? Both.

Intellectualistic or Sensationalist? Intellectualistic and fuck you for making me use that word.

Idealistic or Materialistic? Material girl.

Optimistic or Pessimistic? Historical optimist. On a personal level such concepts do not apply for me.

Religious or Irreligious? I think Wolfheart is a better album.

Free Will or Fatalistic (Deterministic)? Jury's still out. Leaning towards determinism with randomist aspects.

Monistic or Pluralistic? Fuck you.

Dogmatic or Skeptical? You do not deal in philosophy if you're dogmatic, you deal in religion.

Sethomas Dude, New Year's when I was 15 was when Y2K happened. I spent it at a friend's house who owns a gun shop. We were all issued pistols and clubs in case of any insurgence. It was a merry time.

Sucks to be you, I guess.

A non-controversial philosophy thread?

Just for kicks... are you a tender-minded philosopher (responses on the left) or tough-minded philosopher (responses on the right)?

Which are you:

Rationalistic or Empiricistic?
Intellectualistic or Sensationalist?
Idealistic or Materialistic?
Optimistic or Pessimistic?
Religious or Irreligious?
Free Will or Fatalistic (Deterministic)?
Monistic or Pluralistic?
Dogmatic or Skeptical?

BTW, monistic vs. pluralistic deals with what makes up reality: one substance (monistic) or more than one substance (pluralistic). A more modern and appropriate way would be how you view objects in reality: do you emphasize their interconnected nature, or their disparateness?

My views, more or less:

Rationalistic (and radically so; I am beginning to deny that anything can be truly known through experience alone - a mind is necessary)
Intellectualistic
Materialistic
Pessimistic
Agnostic
Compatibilistic (often called soft determinism)
Monistic
Skeptical (again, fairly radical; while I do not deny that knowledge is possible, I believe the only thing we can know for certain is that nothing else is certain)
