Royal Tenenbaum NEW WILCO news:

At least that's what you said
Hell is Chrome
Spiders (kidsmoke)
Muzzle of Bees
Hummingbird
Handshake drugs

Company in my back
I'm a wheel
Wishful thinking
Late greats
Theologians
Less than you think

Rez The Beta Band will release their self-produced, Nigel Godrich-mixed third full-length Heroes To Zeroes, May 4th on Astralwerks, according to a Billboard report (the album will be out one week earlier in the UK, on April 26th). The album will be preceded by first single "Assessment" in the UK on April 12th, with an accompanying video chronicling "the history of human warfare," according to the band's Steve Mason.

In fact, the band are hard at work on clips to accompany each of the album's twelve cuts for a future DVD release. Each of the Beta's four members will be responsible for three videos each, with the possibility that some of the tracks "may not be from the LP but will be new," according to Mason. Here's the album tracklist:

01 Assessment
02 Space
03 Lion Thief
04 Easy
05 Wonderful
06 Troubles
07 Out-side
08 Space Beatle
09 Rhododendron
10 Liquid Bird
11 Simple
12 Pure For

Rez NEW BJORK: but not what you think...

Bjork Singles Box....again
Looks like they're going to be giving it another go. Let's hope it actually comes out this time. From bjork.com:

--
Looks like some sort of itch is setting in, because for 7 years, we have had plans to make a SINGLES BOX SET and it guess what - that soup is being stirred again as it certainly looks like it is has gotten a confirmed final release for April!

It is the complete singles box. Every single, mix and white label combined in one box. This is being released to cater for the demand for the obscure mixes which are no longer available, hard to get or were never released in some countries.

And to add to the excitement, the word is indeed that the design-legends of Me Company will be the ones designing it.

this means that underworld mix will be out

HOWEVER, i am owed at least $40 by Bjork because i was fool enough to buy the family tree set, and i was gloriously ripped off.
Jan 30th, 2004 01:48 AM
Bobo Adobo If they did they would be more like all them generic bands you listen to.

edit - and they did (according to you) play there best stuff more than enough, but if you are ever been in a band that has toured for 30 years and has played more than 2300+ shows together, you just might have a craving for doing something different.
Jan 30th, 2004 01:32 AM
Royal Tenenbaum Or maybe Live Dead just smokes ass because they didn't play there best stuff enough, you fucking dolt.
Jan 29th, 2004 11:02 PM
Bobo Adobo no its not, but I use to have a subscription and whenever I read you posts about music, your comments and muisical biases lead me to believe that the Rollingstone is your Bible. Which is a very bad thing.

And if you think tht Studio Dead is better than Live Dead you either haven't really listened to live Dead or were dropped on the head as a baby.
Jan 29th, 2004 08:06 PM
Royal Tenenbaum Opps, I fucked up.

"And that the there best albums are Workingman's, AB, and AOS (didn't pull that one out of the Rolling Stone did ya?) and that everything else was just "good" if not "Terrible"."

Is that the only magazine you've heard off? And, no, I didn't pull that from Rolling Stone, I actually was introduced to AB from the TV show Freaks and Geeks. I have listened too a ton of the stuff on your list, and while like I said, it's good, it's not fucking great.
Jan 29th, 2004 02:12 PM
Krythor Tenenbaum, you mixed this retarded bobo adobo up with Les Waste, who used to be Bobo Adobo, listens to reggae and isn't a complete cuntwhore.
Jan 28th, 2004 11:58 PM
Bobo Adobo So are you saying just because they were more folk/country albums they weren't "Jam" albums. And that the there best albums are Workingman's, AB, and AOS (didn't pull that one out of the Rolling Stone did ya?) and that everything else was just "good" if not "Terrible". Yeah, and what I mean by listening to them is not refering to the Rolling Stone for there "intellectual" comments.

Edit - and those are just all the legal releases.
Jan 28th, 2004 11:20 PM
Royal Tenenbaum The only truly great Grateful Dead albums are the ones that had nothing to do with jam and were country (although Anthem for the Sun is great). The rest of their stuff was only good, but not great, with some super fucking terrible thrown in. I wouldn't consider GD a jam band just because they did so live, American Beauty and Workingman's Dead were tight.
Jan 28th, 2004 11:00 PM
Rez i have been victim to stereotyping. after seeing "jam bands" perform live more than once i have seen "improvisation" as naught more than worthless noodling until they hit on something they like and since it was on the fly, it wouldnt be especially good.
but seeing as i know little about "jam bands" or anything associated with them, i'm assuming those who listen and like em find something i dont.

anyway.. more new things,

The Cure plan to follow up 2000's Bloodflowers with a new studio album next summer, and their entire catalog will be remastered in the next eighteen months, with each album padded out with an additional disc of rare, live and previously unreleased material.
Jan 28th, 2004 05:32 PM
Rongi I hate to break what I said before, but I can see how Phish could've been inspired by FZ more than Jerry. The reason why I was skeptical about FZ being inspired by Garcia is that I don't see much similarities between FZ's music and Garcia's. FZ was more inspired by doo-wop and classical music.
Jan 28th, 2004 05:13 PM
Bobo Adobo Rez, I would really like to hear your idea of what a "good" live band does. Concidering Widespread Panic, Phish and the Grateful Dead approached each live show as being an actual significant event rather than repeat the same setlist they do everynight to promote there new album. They give there audience something new everytime they play, which is the reason why people stalk them.

Most Jambands are all about Improvisation and Musical composition which not what many musicians manage to do well. in todays music people are more reliant on studio majic to make a good record than actual musical no how.

Also using the word Jambands bugs the shit outta me because a lot of them do suck, but theres a few that are damn good. And just sounds stupid to lump them into one catagory.

FZ was mostly influenced by early R&B, and I didn't mean that he was influenced by Jerry. I was saying that bands like Phish and moe. have more of a Zappa influence than the Dead.
Jan 28th, 2004 04:48 PM
Rongi To be honest there's still a lot about FZ I don't know yet. So, I don't know if he really was inspired by Jerry or not. If he was, well then I guess I might respect Jerry for that and nothing else, since FZ is one of my favorite artists every. Either way the dead where the most boring shit band I've ever heard. Shake It Sugary should be considered a lullaby and nothing more.

You know rez, I don't want to ruin your great thread, so this is the last thing I will say on the subject of the dead.
Jan 28th, 2004 04:42 PM
Rez music, not schnapps.... oh fuck it as soon as i try to make rules people will invariably go to break them...

rongi, you missed bobo's remark about zappa, maybe you should defend yourself there.

bobo, jam bands suck live, which is why they just suck.
Jan 28th, 2004 04:24 PM
Rongi you're welcome, idiot.
Jan 28th, 2004 04:18 PM
Bobo Adobo thanks, idiot.
Jan 28th, 2004 04:14 PM

Actually I like reggae. Jam Bands can suck it.
Damn, its real funny hear some person who thinks he knows his Frank Zappa say that, concidering that he has as much influence on the scene as good ol' Jerry bear.

and you wouldn't know talent if it stuck its big black dick up your ass, you shnapps drinking nancy.
Jan 28th, 2004 03:03 PM
Rez that dub n reggae station actually isnt all bad when you're playing GTA 3.

new stuff:

RJD2 has a new album coming soon, promotional copy is online, but i couldnt find the name of the album itself. i thought his first album was overrated, but still really good, so i'll check this one out too:

tracklisting for online searching:

01 since we last spoke 04:15
02 exotic talk 03:44
03 since 76 02:27
04 ring finger 03:48
05 making days longer 04:36
06 someones second 04:29
07 to all of you 05:09
08 iced lightning 04:30
09 clean living 04:07
10 intro 01:10
11 through the walls 03:28
12 one day 04:50

apparently moby's alias "voodoo child," the one he wanted to use to make underground techno stuff.. came out with some fanfare and a sigh of relief from some that he can do decent music still... but mediocre feedback otherwise.

new incubus CD soon... i dont give a shit but others might, as some think theyre above the standard radio play stuff....
