LacrimansTaurne | Sometimes programs will run hidden, and ctrl+alt+del won't close them all. After you closed everything you can through ctrl+alt+del, go to System Information (under System Tools) and click on Software Environment, then Running Tasks. This will show you what programs are still running. You'll probably have to uninstall some stuff in order to defrag. I know for a fact that having Realplayer installed on your computer can mess with defrag. Good luck. | |

Safe mode is the better way because Windows will sometimes restart critical programs, like svchost, in the middle of everything. You're probably using Windows 2000 or lower, right, BF? That always used to happen to me until I figured out the Safe Mode way. |

shut off your screensaver/powersave options hit alt-ctrl-del to get to the task manager shut off (end task) everything but systray and explorer in the task manager then run defrag should work :/ -willie |

my defrag is fucked it keeps restarting so it's pretty much useless. it says it restarts because i'm writing on the disk even when i'm doing nothing and even when i tried in safe mode or whatever. anybody know how to fix it? |
