I guess that you have to, at least, respect the fact that he never denied having used it or conceded to using "and not inhaling". He simply avoided the issue altogether ... somehow. Also, interesting was the fact that he was conveniently abroad when all this came down. Easiest way to avoid questions and let things die down is to not be present. |

Again... And again, taken in the full context of the statement, which that is not by the way, it sounds more like he was saying as a President, or candidate for president, you shouldn't answer that question. Regardless, I don't think any of it matters so much. He didn't say he rapes babies or kisses me or won't rest until Saddam is dead, so it's all pretty much just gee whiz stuff anyway. |

I dunno bout that: Quote:
but so fucking what - he smoked some weed. it's not like he ever DENIED it (in fact, that's another thing he supposedly said in the tapes "I never denied anything") |

sspadowsky | That's what I meant, Blanco. I don't think it's going to be anything that will be incriminating.

Maybe Im not sure Bush actually was alluding to having smoked marijuana. I read it as him speaking as a President, not him as George Bush. As in how would it look if I as the President, being in the position of a role model, admitted to smoking pot? And then cites Al Gore as an example. It didn't sound to me as if he were saying, hey, what if I tell everyone about all the weed I smoked? How would that look? I read it as being far less sinister than it's made out to be. |

ziggytrix | The guy with the tapes is named Doug Wead, and he's an old friend of Bush, Sr.

From what I read nothing was too damning. Bush said he didn't want to kick gays because hes a sinner also and he implies he smoked marijuana but won't admit because he doesn't want a kid to think its okay because the president has done it. These are the only two bits of the conversation I have read. I bet there will be better stuff in the book. |

El Blanco | No the tapes are there. The book is being published.

sspadowsky | I've read just a bit about it. Based on that, I'd equate it with Geraldo Rivera's "Al Capone's Vault" thing.

The Bush tapes So, any informed opinions? Do they make him look better or worse? Are they comforting or disturbing? Why have I not seen this addressed in the mainstream media? |
