Sethomas | I was on-hand to witness an actual MJ "Thriller" mass dance. Only a few people were zombies, though. But then again, it was at the University of Chicago, so figuratively we were all zombies. | |

This happened in Montreal this summer. Every Sunday on Montreal's "Mount Royal" (weather permitting), there is something called the "tam-tams" which is a bunch of hippies and peddlers and bongo playing people and merchants and pot smokers and whatever hanging out. This event happens every Sunday afternoon in the summer, and there are always hundreds of people there. Well, just a little north of where the tam-tams take place on the mountain (which is really just a grassy hill that overlooks the city), every Sunday, a group of D&D kids hang out with duct-tape swords and capes and chain-mail, etc. Think that video floating around a few years ago: "FIREBALL! FIREBALL! SLEEP! SLEEP!" but with French Canadian kids. Anyway, some University film students or something decided to organize an 'army of zombies' to go and 'attack' these D&D kids (all in fun). Many people signed up, and on Sunday, in full make up, fifty or so zombies drunkenly stumbled their way to Mount Royal in full zombie character. They actually stopped traffic, jumped on cars, and generally caused a ruckus. They arrived at Mount Royal and 'attacked' the D&D kids who took it very seriously. After the D&D kids vanquished the zombies from Mount Royal, the zombies went back into the street and caused a bunch more shit. Then they all crammed into the McDonalds at the main intersection and started a dance party on the tables. One of them broke a windows in McDonalds and the manager was furious!
