Yeah, I don't like to do Starbucks becuase of their abominable corporste prcatices in my home town of Salem, where they are actively taking a serious loss in an attempt to drive out privately owned shops, mine included (which is doing so well it bought one of the coffee shops Starbucks succeeeded in forcing out of business so HAH!) I forgot you were from Hawaii. Kona is my favorite coffee surpassing even Tanzanian Peaberry, but alas, I can no longer afford it. Is it cheaper where it's grown? My father in Law, a pilot who once lived in Hawaii sent me a can of it once, and it far surpassed in quality the Kona I've bought even as beans here on the mailand. My theory is they keep good quality stuff at home. |

The problem I have with coffee houses, aside from most of their patrons, is the expense. I tend to order without looking at the prices first, which has caused some frustrated dining experiences in the past - last week I bought a fourteen dollar burritto from Compadre's- which has resulted in be bending over for five dollar java shots of expresso. I pay less for shots of Makers Mark, which is certainly more worth it my opinion. You're right about roasted beans though. You can taste the difference between freeze dried, fresh and week-old fresh beans. Luckily, Honolulu still patronizes the whims of caffeine fanatics like myself, and freshly ground, freshly brewed coffee is always available. I feel for your loss. The problems of two people don't amount to a hill of beans in this cRaZy world Burbank, but you'll always have Starbucks. |

There is an excellent coffee house between my hom and my train station, so I get my first dose their. One to two shots of espresso, the rest of the large cup filled with Tanzanian Peaberry when they have it, any dark roast when they don't. I then suffer through the day with whatever I can get. When making my own, I think anything made with a French Press (yes, damnit, FRENCH! I'll die before I call it a freedom press) comes out well. Like chocolate, I like the good stuff best, but even the really bad kind is pretty good. My experience (and this could be totally in my head) is that if you can find a shop that roasts their own beans , patronize it. While Salem has several excellent privately owned coffee shops, unfortunately none of them roast their own, and the coffee roaster in Newbury port recently closed it's doors, so it's a luxury I'm currently without. I have given up a good many vices in my life, leaving only coffee and a very speciffic type of pornography which I will not discuss, save to say that it is legal, though with my salarly I can only afford to look at the pictures and not partcipate. I'm kidding of course. I like snuff films, I thought everyone knew that. NO NO, JUST COFFEE FOR GOD'S SAKE! |

You amaze me Burbank, in as much as you can add value to an otherwise worthless thread. Coffee is the nectar of the gods. I am on my fourth cup right now. I take mine black, doubling the grinds. I prefer the "Horn & Hardart" brand, but I rely upon, it seems anual, shipments from a friend back east to get some. How about you? |

No, of course not. Certainly not at my suggestion. Like I said, no slight at you speciffically, this is just the biggest axe I'm currently grinding and I've had more than my fair share of coffee today. |

I just woke up half a couple hour agos, my normal routine is read the paper - useless tripe, local papers in paradise are just what they sound like - and then I spend a couple hours going through what I find online, and while I could spend the entire day doing this, I try to limit myself. If I find anything interesting or revealing, I post it. Like the above article, which I erased after reading CLA's update. I hadn't read Ronnie's post, and I usually try not to, and didn't realize it was already covered. Worldnetdaily is the worst source of news, but since they and CNN were the only reporters there, -what the hell if a Knight Ridder? - I figured they wouldn't post anything which would be refuted by CNN later on. . .I suck at predicting people's actions. Shall I hang myself now? ![]() |

OH MY GAWD, CAN NO ONE WAIT UNTIL A STORY IS VERIFIED WITH SOME DEGREE OF SERIOUSNESS?! How many news stories so far in the last week have turned out to be wrong? Would it kill folks to just hold their judgement until the smoke clears and some of the bodies are trucked away? Shach, this is not meant speciffically at you. I think peoples eagerness (and I-mockery is just a microcosm here) to be proven RIGHT about what they thought is symptomatic of "War as Game" theory. History does is not written "1 Hr. 15 Mn, ago" even though that looks wicked cool under the by-line on the internet. Everybody needs to hold their damn horses. |
