sadie the scripts work fine in firefox. it's weird using it again, though. something about the lines is brighter. anyway, i guess that means it was an ie problem from my recent hijacking. thanks for all the help, guys!

sadie the applets are working; i just played two yahoo games. does that make a difference? i'm going to go ahead and install firefox to see if the scripting works.

AChimp Javascript and applets are run in a "virtual machine" which allows the code to be run on any platform, regardless of Windows/Mac/etc. The virtual machine has to be specific to your OS, though. Microsoft has one that's should be included with IE and stuff (I remember downloading updates for it years ago).

If that's broken, Javascript doesn't work. Do the scripts work in Firefox?

i checked these too, after a bit of figuring-out, and they're set to allow the scripting, also.

AChimp It could be that your Virtual Machine got borked.

sadie yep.

ziggytrix didja check the link?

edit: cuz if that's all set like that and it still isn't working, i'd say you have messed up registry settings.

proper setings can be found at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=182569 but that's not a quick, easy fix if you aren't familiar with regedit.

sadie thanks. i changed all of those to default; they'd all been adjusted, of course. but still, the scripts don't work. argghh.

ziggytrix you're looking under the advanced tab, there is also the security tab where it has different settings for internet, local intranet, etc, and set that internet back to default - or customize if you feel like wading thru all the options.

or just find your browser and follow the nice tutorial with pics:

sadie no, it was ie. i used firefox on my pc before it got fried, and i probably should use it on this laptop, as well. maybe this weekend i'll have time to download and install.

i looked in internet options for the javascript turn-on, and the "use java <applet>" thingy is checked. am i looking at the right place? i'm using windows 98 on this still.

ziggytrix AV won't protect your browser from exploits. Microsoft's anitspyware stuff might help if you're running IE, but otherwise I'd recommend switching to Mozilla Firefox. Or was it Firefox that got hijacked?
Dec 14th, 2005 12:45 PM
sadie i'll check it as soon as i get home.

and, yes, my browser did get hijacked, ziggy. i worked for hours and hours to figure out all of that registry crap. i still don't think my antivirus program is working right, but most everything else is working fine. i guess i really need to format the whole computer, and start from scratch.

ziggytrix OMG, Sadie's browser has been hijacked, and they're going to crash it into i-Mockery! RUN!

AChimp Make sure that Javascript is enabled in your browser. If it somehow got turned off, it won't process any scripts.

javascript problem

i'm not sure when this started, but lately, whenever i try to click on a link that is actually a javascript code, rather than an "a href" link to another page, nothing happens. some pages, i'm unable to navigate at all due to this. help, please?
