Fantatic book and equally great movie. The original 1930 version though. Not the one with John Boy.

At first I was suprised and disappointed by the ending (I won't spoil it for those who haven't read it yet) but, after thinking about it, I realized that it really couldn't end any other way ... a strong statement that the author was making throughout the whole novel, really.

I've never seen the movie but this book doesn't appeal to me as the kind of literature that would translate well into a movie. There's too much inner thoughts and feelings that would you'd be hard pressed to find a way to put into the dialogue between the characters without it seeming forced.

I have only watched the movie. The good version, with Technicolor.
But if the book is even 2 times better then the movie, I'll check it out.

This book is so intense that I had to put it down a few times just to calm down. It's very lucid and insightful. I'm discovering more and more that American and European writers of the 1920's and 1930's are a gold mine. Thanks all for the recommendation.

I had to read this back in 9th grade. I seemed to be the only person who liked it. The relation between Kat and, unfortunatley, the other soldier whose name I can't remeber, was really moving.

All Quiet on the Western Front
Awesome fucking book. Not considering Catch-22 or Slaughterhouse Five, probably the best damn war book ever written. I loved it.
