Buffalo Tom Mitchell: You should check out "Hearts" by Stars. Brilliant poppy CD, kind of like Call and Response. It's members are from Broken Social Scene. I saw them on Saturday in Toronto and they are amazing.

The best thing: They're from Canada! Take that , you dirty Americans! :P

re:

broken social scene - you forget it in people = jazzy post-rockers gone fucking epic pop/rock/experimental teenager in his bedroom.

xiu xiu - a promise = joy division + schizophrenia + 4 drummers.

7,000 dying rats - the sound of no hands clapping = metallic comedy hour and it's got weasel walter!

dirty three - she has no strings apollo = deserts and oceans. crazy, sad little violin meets lazy six-string and jazz drummer on codeine fits.

a trillion barnacle lapse - the elemental gearbot = david bowie meets the faint? goddamn, these dicks like taking photos of themselves.

hair police - blow out your blood = trashy lo-fi noise. my roommate says wolf eyes without the expensive equipment, but he's a dumb cocksucker.

i'm firmly placed in jackson, tennessee again. i'll be here at least 12 more months.
if you honestly enjoy this sort of music, please communicate with me. i'm trying to get active again now that i have an apartment with room for my shit and no fat chicks bitching about how crazy i am. webzine, bands, distro, label, something!

Helm I HAVE diverse taste, a few thousand albums too, but I haven't heard of those bands either. What genres?
Feb 17th, 2003 05:42 PM
sspadowsky Mitchell, where the hell do you find these bands?

I like to think I have fairly diverse taste, but I think I may only have heard of 10% of the bands you mentioned here.

By the way, where are you living now?
