Perndog Turns out my brother has an unused copy of XP laying around that some techie guy he works with gave him. Problem solved.

I noticed the OEM software at Newegg, though. Someone told me I could get a really good deal if I just bought a hard drive and had a copy of Windows tacked on the order.

You can get an OEM copy pretty cheap.

Ninjavenom XP Full is still $300. XP Upgrade is $200. I would just wait to spend the extra hundred or two for the new OS. Why upgrade so close to the new release if you're gonna buy it anyway?

Fathom Zero Definately. I remember seeing Windows XP for about $300 a while back. Now you can hardly find it in stores, at least around me.

I'd see if I can find it now, on the cheap, and upgrade later. Of course, I'm running XP right now. I usually wait a year or two for the price to drop before I get the next OS.

Hey Windows fans

I'm running Ubuntu Linux right now and I don't have a Windows license of any type nor an easy connection for a pirate copy. I'm planning on having Windows on my computer eventually, to run my notation software and a new Soundblaster X-Fi, and I expect Vista will be the way to go. But the consumer release of Vista isn't expected until January, and I want to play Hellgate: London when it comes out in October instead of waiting three months. And I'm hesitant to expect it will run well in WINE for a while.

So I'm wondering if anyone has a good guess what might the difference in price be between buying a copy of Windows XP now and upgrading some time later or just waiting until January and getting the new OS then? I may just make myself wait if it looks like it'll cost too much more.
