In all seriousness, a lot of countries have been coming to bat. I have been told that China has donated the biggest cash package. A lot of corporations are coming up too. Johnson and Johnson have donated thousands of first aid kits and a big lump sum of cash. they are also going to match whatever their employees donate. Sikorsky has sent down two choppers (with more to follow) as well as the big cash deals. |

If Castro really wanted to donate something usefull, he'd send over a load of Che tshirts so those impoverished people could really stick it to the man. Iran offered an aid package as well. How cute. |

El Blanco | He can do better. He can send you to the revolution camps where he is going to learn to be a modern day Rambo. That is, if the fighting skills some old woman with an infant doesn't impress his comrades more than him.

That's a novel idea, "Trade". Hey, we could even offer people Technology and scientists and all that BS that the us is good for in exchange for, "Food and fuel". No, nevermind. That could never work. Let's invade cuba. |

Venezuela's state owned oil company owns refineries and petrol stations in the US. Is it really impossible to deal it out from there? There is also a joint Cuban-Venezuelan plan, to send Cuban doctors to poor US areas to treat people free of charge, in the mix. That seems funnier. |

"So, its ok if he does a good thing for a selfish reason?" Absolutely. I may be fairly lefty in my personal thinking, but I don't think anyone ends up leading a country unless they are a huge dick. I don't think any other type of person, be they vicous dictator or freely elected representtive, gets into the drivers seat. That being said, I'll take their beneficial selfish acts over their dmagaing selfish acts any day. AND as far as political theater goes, it's pretty funny. Logistically, I have no idea what would happen next. Our government would have to respnd, which as far as I know they haven't done. I can't believe we haven't at least tried to coordinate drinkable water and food relief. How could that hurt? |

Geggy | he probably did it for the spite of it and to make everybody who wants him assassinated to feel bad about themselves.

And what Chavez is suggesting is actually logistically impossible. HBe wants to give oil directly to the poor areas. What does he plan on doing, roll up the barrels directly to the local Ghetty? Not to mention I'm not sure just how much say the government actually has in this. Wouldn't the oil companies themselves be the ones to handle the transaction? Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see this go through, I just don't see it all that possible. |

Schimid | We should take it and send over Robertson as a gift.

Sethomas | Blanco, read The Gift. All forms of altruism can be directly traced back to rational self-interest, so your point is a bit moot. At any rate, I find the move hilarious. Props to the commie pinkos.

So, its ok if he does a good thing for a selfish reason? If so, then I agree. Maybe, this will even get the sides actually talking on friendly terms and reach some agreements and keep the little drama queen from being a royal pain in the ass. |

Chavez offers food, water and Fuel to US Sure it's grandstanding political theater, but at least it's the nice kind. I say we take him ujp on it for the irony of seeing Christian Pat Robertson counseling assasination vs. heathen socialist Chavez offering to feed the hungry and supply their energy needs. What do you suppose ol' W is going to say? "Thanks but no thanks?"... "We don't need your help"? Maybe Chenney can tell him to "Go fuck himself" |
