mburbank It just shows you how stupid our military is. If they'd bought the genie lamp first, they wouldn' have had to pay for the rest of the tuff.

No, seriously, of course this is no shock and HORIFFIC pentagon waste goes on under Democratic as well as Republican administrations. My point is, you MIGHT want to see if you can make it clear Nacho Cheese warmers and Cappucinno Machines need to get competative bids before being purchased. Cowboy hats and sumo suits you might even forgoe in favor of saving som e money for things like education benefits and decent salaries for Grunts.

Bombs, was it you who saud something about a magic money tree? The Pentagon my not have that, but they absoluetly have magic comptrollers. Try getting my bus to sign the paperwork for a Nacho Cheese warmer some time. I speak from experience.

FS This article would go great with a photo of an officer wearing a sumo suit and cowboy hat, sitting on a love seat in the middle of a golf court surrounded by white sand, eating nacho cheese and drinking cappucino, using his river rock as a paperweight so his prints from "The Intelligent Investor" don't get blown away, while a remote-controlled car carrying a genie lamp drives around... aimlessly...

Sounds like they have a Sgt. Bilko.

KevinTheOmnivore I'm not going anywhere with this. I'm glad we agree.

El Blanco I'm big time in favor of cutting waste. I read a book the alphabetized all the big waste projects the government runs.

And I know where you are going with this.

Paul138 Someone needs to justify the sumo suit.

KevinTheOmnivore WEARS no clothes? I mean, having them and voluntarily not using them is a WHOLE other story!

So by your reaction Blanco I take it you are in favor of curbing such unnecessary spending...?
Mar 4th, 2003 08:30 PM
El Blanco You mean a government agency is overrunning its budget and sticking it to the taxpayer?

THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES

Whatever....

Max,
While I respect your opinion, from your post I can only assume that you know little about soldiering. If you had read "The Art of War", I'm quite sure you'd fully understand how necessary it is to have a nacho cheese warmer.

Surely you do not expect America's fighting forces to defend our nation on a steady diet of chips and cold nacho cheese.

Why Penatgon can't afford Education Aid.

How much will the war on terrorism cost? If past experience is any indication, there are bound to be a few hidden expenses. As it takes on the axis of evil, the Pentagon is running up what it refers to as "incremental costs" -- expenses over and above the cost of training and deploying troops overseas. But when the General Accounting Office took a look at $2.2 billion the Defense Department spent enforcing no-fly zones in Iraq and keeping peace in the Balkans in 2000 and 2001, it found at least $101 million in what it calls "questionable expenditures." Here are a few of the iffier expenses racked up at air bases in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
