This might shock many of you, but I am actually very pro-union. This just happens to be one of those details I don't like. Union shops force all employees to join. They are protected by New York State law. I understand that unions main power lies within their numbers and that anyone who leaves puts a serious dent, but should this really be protected by law? What if your local is on the company payroll or corrupt in some other way (like when I worked as a teamster)? Shouldn't a person have the right to speak on their own behalf? |

The One and Only... | You are, if you can't understand why an employer would make his workers join unions. |

Does anyone else see the irony here? According to the NLRA, employers cannot force their employees to leave unions, because that would be unfair labor practice - but he can force his employees to join unions. Talk about the plight of the worker. |
