You've pretty much nailed it on the head there although I will have to be playing again March 10th for Mass Effect goodness.

MetalMilitia The whole game is great. <- Full stop ("period" you yank bastards).

Dr. Octogonopus I liked highway 17. :< Not as much as I did ravenholm, but that's more because of my love for zombies.

timrpgland I haven't played through the original in a very very long time. I do like Half Life though and #2 was pretty impressive when it came out. First time in Ravenholm was priceless.

I have to finish the eps still on The Orange Box. I've been neglecting my 360 HARDCORE the last few months though. I will get back in the 360 groove again sometime soon.

Guitar Woman I think Highway 17 is the worst thing I've ever played.

Dr. Octogonopus I like it when characters talk in first person, like in.... okay, I'm having trouble remembering any good games like that. But it makes for a neat effect.
Feb 27th, 2008 07:43 PM
Chojin in kingpin, your character would talk while you're still in first person, and the bass was turned way up to simulate how your voice sounds to yourself when you're talking.

It was actually kinda neat.

Dr. Octogonopus I like Master Chief's voice actor. Before you get all OMG HALO IS TEH SUK, I mean I like the ACTOR, and he goes well with MC's skin, but the needless drama is a bit over the top on bungie's part.

darkvare the coolest characters have voices and awesome quotes like "hail to the king baby" -duke nukem
or one of my favorites "i had a dream, my wife was dead but it was ok" -max payne

Dr. Octogonopus Yeah, it's weird that you never speak, but I like it when there aren't cutscenes in the middle of the game. Maybe in between levels (assuming there were separate levels) like in halo, but in game I think maybe you could just talk out to them. I can't imagine what Gordon would sound like, though. Maybe like House.
Feb 25th, 2008 07:24 PM
AChimp The fact that Gordon doesn't talk is what makes the game work. If there were all kinds of cut scenes where you see yourself, the game would just be gay.

MetalMilitia In my opinion Valve can do no wrong.
Feb 25th, 2008 11:22 AM
Dr. Octogonopus Yeah, the muteness was a little weird. It kinda made all the other characters sound like they were talking to themselves. But I hated the trap the combine lay for you at the bed and breakfast in Episode 2. :P

Fat_Hippo I thought the second one was okay, but definitley not as great as many people make it out to be. I haven't played any episodes after the main game. The first one was okay in some parts, while others bored the shit out of me.

And yeah, darkvare, the muteness kinda annoyed me to. I realize it's supposed to help you immerse yourself in the game, but for me it actually did the opposite, since it made all conversations with your character ridiculous.

darkvare i hated one and despiced two and all episodes too but maybe is for mr. nerd himself gordon freeman the mute and the lack of good dialogue in the first game

Dr. Octogonopus I loved all of them It's crazy, if you really pay attention to half life 1, it starts to hint at why the xenians are invading earth, especially nihilanth. It's kinda creepy. But I do like the ones after it better. More innovation.

Guitar Woman I hate half life

the second one and it's offspring are allright, though!

Talk about it. It's amazing how deep the games are, especially how the first was hinting about the combine the whole time.
