FS | I was watching a British TV show yesterevening (Room 101, Brits), and at the end they showed a segment of a 30/40-something Bill Shatner wrestling his way through a song, seemingly on the verge of tears, but still doing dramatic poses and inserting long pauses between words. Words could not do it justice.

"has Been" is not all great, there are some dispensible tracks, but 'Comkon people' and 'I can't get behind that' (with Henry Rollins) are so damn great they alone are worth the whole album. Add to the William Shatner file that he starred in the only film ever made in Esperanto and that he briefly studied to be a rabbi and you have ONE MAGNIFICENT BASTARD! |

ziggytrix | You gotta give a lot of the credit for Has Been to Ben Folds, who produced it, and all the guest artists featured on it.

You know... I started doing some thinking about what was said... And you are absolutely right; William Shatner is a f*cking genius. I mean he has parlayed his career into a world wide phenominon (Kirk), an established actor, a horrible musician who somehow has pulled it together for one killer album (Has Been), and frankly, been involved with more well known TV genres then anyone else in history (TJ Hooker, Twilight Zone, Star Trek, Outer Limits, Columbo, ETC...). BILL SHATNER=LEGEND. |

pjalne | I read Neil Gaiman's blog recently, and one day he had downloaded Common People and couldn't stop listening to it. It's really awesome, I'm considering buying the album.

I saw that in your music thread and listened to some saples and I am buying that album tomorrow at the very latest! I swear to god, if William Shatner would record some William Burroughs stuff over Morricone music I'd go straight to heaven. |

SHATNERMANIA!! Denny Crane... Is the only role since Kirk that fits Shtner (and that means XXXXXL these days). An emmy, a hit show, a critically aclaimed album... the world has finally caught up with me nd realized that the Shat is a fucking genius. On an odd side note, James Spaders dad was my high school History Teacher. |
