Cosmo Electrolux I'll have to check out the art of dreaming...Casteneda's books have a dreamy quality to me....just reading his books is almost a surreal experience...like reading W.B. Yates poetry....

kahljorn yea, i could see how someone would find it hard to believe. I always liked art of dreaming because of the way he presented it. It was almost a step by step guide to learning how to have crazy shaman dreams. Essentially what you do is focus on learning how to focus in lucid dreams. I don't know if you've ever had one, but it's kind of hard to at times and you can get side-tracked easily, so it suggests exercises for building your focus. I thought that was cool, because ti was written so practically you can't help but believe it.. at least partially.

As for his existence, I'm not sure.

Cosmo Electrolux I've read a few of his books....the last one I read was "The Active side of Infinity"...and it was good. I like Castenada, but I have doubts about the existance of Don Juan. I would love to believe that the things described in his books were possible, but I just can't decide how much is reality and how much is pure bullshit.

kahljorn I don't know. Some of the reviews talk about it as being about Don Juan. Have you ever read Carlos Canstenada? I liked art of dreaming by him, it seemed really practical.
Jan 26th, 2006 03:22 PM
Cosmo Electrolux that's the one...I have a recent copy of it, as I wanted to give it another chance....but I haven't started it yet. I'm still not sure if I saw a reference to it in Wilsons work or not....

kahljorn Yea, I love alan watts. I used to have a bunch of audio books by him but i deleted them because they took up too much space. I never really found him dry and dulll, but I could see how someone could.

Was it James Joyce? He talks about him alot, and most of the people that try to read his books end up giving up.

This one?

Cosmo Electrolux I have read Alan Watts...The Book was the name of the book, and although he lacks WIlsons flair, the book was very readable and enjoyable. I'll find my Wilson books ( I moved recently and all of my books are still packed away) and find out the authors name and the title of the book.

It may be "The Crack in the Cosmic Egg".....I'll find out when I dig out my books.

kahljorn Dry and dull? What was it about?

Alan watts?
Jan 25th, 2006 02:49 PM
Cosmo Electrolux it doesn't. I tried to read something by one of the authors Wilson references all of the time, but it was so dry and dull, I couldn't finish it.

I wish I could remember his name....old age and alcohol are talking their toll
Jan 24th, 2006 03:59 PM
kahljorn Thanks.

Have you ever read any of the people he talks about? Like Korzybski? I want to buy some of his books. I've read a few things online. I know it won't have that same RAW flair, though.

Cosmo Electrolux Aside from "Illuminatus" , I think the Cosmic Trigger series and Promethius Rising were my favorites.

His newest is called "Email to the Universe". I'll post a book report after I"ve read it.
Jan 24th, 2006 03:36 PM
kahljorn Awesome I wish I had more money to spend on books. Which one is your favorite by him? What is his latest book?

I think he mentioned hassan-i sabbah in Prometheus once or twice, mostly when talking about reimprinting and supposed brainwashing. He talks about how Hassan-i Sabbah would get people really high and really stoned/fucked up then he'd scare the shit out of them while they're hallucinating. Then he would show up with a harem of women and scare off the "beasts" which would attach people to him like they were his children or something.

I've heard alot of stuff about him, including that he brought hash to america and other "Mysteries". I've also heard his name mentioned in works by Hakim Bey and a few other authors.

"Nothing is true and everything is permitted" I love that quote. I do my best to live by philosophies similar to that.
I've read all of Wilsons books, except his latest. I've ordered that one from New Falcon Publications...should be here any day now.

kahljorn Well if you want to buy some pot I hope you have a CANNIBUS CARD making it completely legal for you to do so.
Jan 24th, 2006 02:52 PM
KevinTheOmnivore Unless you're an Islamic drug dealer, I'd prefer you not talk about that shit here.
Jan 24th, 2006 02:50 PM
Riggo44 I said I would buy your pot and I guess that's a big no no here....oh well 2 tears in a bucket fuck it
Jan 24th, 2006 02:47 PM
kahljorn What happened? ARE YOU ALREADY GOING TO BEGIN WITH YOUR REGIME OF CLASSIFICATIONS AND THE HIDING OF THE TRUTH? ME AND GEGGY ARE GOING TO FIND YOUR ASS OUT.
Jan 24th, 2006 02:42 PM
Riggo44 Sorry Kev......I didn't read the tos word for word
Jan 24th, 2006 02:39 PM

kahljorn Also, I have so much pot right now I don't know what to do with it!

In honor of this thread and everybody posting in it, and of course in honor of hassas-i sabbah, I will now go take my morning gravity. GOOOOD MOOORNING GRAAAAAVITY, I damn your house
Jan 24th, 2006 01:02 PM
kahljorn Yea, sorry I didn't see the pot thing till after I posted. He was supposed to be a crazy stoner along with being a crazy freemasonic assassin, I think that's where timothy leary got alot of his inspiration for drug-induced psychological rehibilitation or even being able to reach deeply into consciousness and cause an effect.
