re

If this hypothetical person cheated on you then Shellac - Prayer to God is a must.

Also:
My Bloody Valentine - I Don't Need You (several other songs by MBV serve this purpose well)
Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart
Swans - You're Not Real, Girl
Dismemberment Plan - 8 1/2 Minutes

For yourselve I'd suggest listening to Fugazi - Epic Problem. It seemed like just the thing I needed to hear when my sophmore year girlfriend broke up with me.

Bennett attitude- the misfits
meaningless - the magnetic fields,
the best part of meaningless being:

"and if some dim bulb should say
that we're better off some way,
kick out all his teeth for me
and if you feel like keeping on kicking
fell free."

Songs for a cd for someone with whom you're breaking up

I'm not breaking up with anyone, I just remembered that an old girlfriend made me a cd with the Bloodhound Gang's "I Hope You Die" on it, and it was metaphysical consequence of things going horrible in the weeks that followed.

What else would be good for the job? What reminded me was listening to Filter's "Consider This", the refrain being "I think you'd be better off if you were dead."
