I think it had to do with AVG scanning every e-mail and then SpamFighter scanning every e-mail again. But really, that shouldn't terminate my resources. I can run CryEngine, for fuck's sake. |

AChimp | I run Outlook 2007 literally 24/7 at work and have no problems with it. The only time it's slow for me is when the server at the other end disconnects me or something | |

With a more powerful system I can't see how it would be functioning properly and yet still eat up all of your resources. Do you have a great number of e-mail accounts or RSS feeds being checked? |

They've completely overhauled the UI for most of the apps in the package so, with Word especially, the menu bar is contextually sensitive to what you're currently doing. So for example when you create a table the menu bar will just show you controls relevant to editing a table, and likewise for several other things. |

Open Office is a Sun product. Google do have an online office suite but it's not that great if you ask me. Certainly no match for Word 07. Outlook is slow as fuck, but it does a lot of helpful things. I have it automatically downloading podcasts from RSS feeds as well as receiving my gMail mail and keeping track of my calendar appointments. So far I've not seen a single app which can do all these things quite as well. I don't know if you're using Office 07, but if not I'd suggest you upgrade to it. It's 100x better than the previous versions. |

Google VS Microsoft So, fed up with the 47-second wait I was putting up with just to open my inbox in Outlook (I have a quad-core processor and 4 GB of ram, my computer is not the problem), I tried making another gmail account and loading all of my other e-mails into it. Their spam filter is liek 100x better than the one I was paying for, and everything just worked the first time I tried it. Google desktop has also been pretty good to me. I'm beginning to feel that if Google came out with an OS/phone/whatever, I'd give it a whirl. Is OpenOffice theirs, too? And does it have an excel replacement? Excel is pretty much the only Microsoft product I like. |
