If a joystick has more than three buttons, it's for pussies.

timrpgland The keyboard/mouse combo is without a doubt the best for FPS. I still don't mind using a controller when I'm playing a console FPS. Some games you can get damn good with just the controller. I'm used to the keyboard/mouse for those types though and when it comes down to it, you can react alot faster.

Schimid I liked Virtual Boy.

I'd also say PS2. Except the D-Pad should be like the NES'.

Perndog Brand name controllers have always been pricey because they were always the best thing available. Anyone that bought any third-party controller (aside from a few exceptions which I can't remember right now) for any reason was a dumbass.

Now, yes, MadCatz is doing pretty well..but as soon as they release a shitty controller, I don't think I'll be able to trust them again.

Command Prompt Not to Get Off On A Rant Here, But Hats off to MadCatz for finally making decent fucking replacement controllers.

Before that you always had 2 choices : The overpriced name brand one or
The cheap shit thin piece of unholy plastic replacement controller by the mysterious brand X that gave new meaning to the terms "Made In China" or "Assesmbled In Taiwan"

Does anyone else rember that NES "joystick upgrade" that snapped over the controller and gave you those gay larger buttons and that useless fucking Mini Joystick thing that hurt your thumb after about 2 minutes and fell off anyway so the cat could fucking eat it??
Or How about that stupid little black thing you plugged your SNES controller into so you could program moves for Street Fighter and such and it never worked properly (especially with charging moves) and the computer kicked your ass worse than if you had never used it at all!!! I remember that goddamn thing!!! IT SAID IT HAD PRE PROGRAMED MOVES BUT ALL THE MOVES IT HAD PREPROGRAMMED WERE FUCKING GAY!! REMEMBER THAT????
WELL I DO!!! FUCK YOU ALL YOU CHEAP SHIT MOTHER OF SATAN GODDAMN REJECT REPLACEMENT CONTROLLERS!!!

whoreable There is no way in hell a controller is more accurate than a mouse. except maybe if the game "helps" you aim.

There is a reason no one uses a gamepad on the pc to play fps, and i have a feeling it is mostly becuase you would get destroyed by any real player using a keyboard and mouse.
Aug 13th, 2003 06:32 PM
Les Waste I can aim better in an FPS using a controller than I can with a keyboard and mouse, although it depends on the controller. I can aim a hell of a lot better using the Gamecube's analog stick and c stick and the R button to fire than I can with the keyboard and mouse.
Aug 13th, 2003 05:31 PM
Krythor I can't stand using a keyboard/mouse for first-person shooters. I know everyone always goes on about how the PC is so superior for them and such, but I seriously cannot aim when I'm using all ten of my digits for running, shooting and reloading.

whoreable Amen.

Although the nes advantage is probaly my favorite one...that i own at least.
Aug 13th, 2003 05:26 PM
AChimp Why won't you faggots acknowledge the supremacy fo the mighty keyboard and mouse?

Esuohlim GAMECUBE

Gamecube's L and R buttons are so fun to use

Rongi DREAMCAST MOTHERFUCKERS

NOT ONLY DOES IT HAVE THE BEST CONTROLLER, IT'S THE BEST SYSTEM EVAR

CUNTS
Aug 13th, 2003 04:31 PM
Bennett exactly my point, it was inefficient. you never had to use it because you never could.
Aug 13th, 2003 04:09 PM
Krythor Although I agree that it's a silly area to place the D-pad, you never had to use it anyway... ever.
Aug 13th, 2003 02:20 PM
Bennett The only controller that I always hated was the N-64, just because it was inefficient. You had to use either the d-pad or the analog stick, you couldn't use both in the same game without moving your hand off of the middle and to the other side of the controller... the later controllers got it right by having it next to the left thumbstick.
Aug 13th, 2003 02:12 PM
soundtest The buttons are what I like least about PS controllers. I hate how the d-pad is 4 little buttons as opposed to a real d-pad. I'm not sure whether I prefer the standard NES type cross or the XBox d-pad that your thumb rests inside... depends on the game and whether precision or 'smooth' motions are required. But ew those 4 little arrow buttons hurt my feelings. The shoulder buttons and face buttons suck too. They're too thin. I actually like the PS analog sticks though.
Aug 13th, 2003 01:51 PM
Krythor Am I the only person who feels that the main PSX buttons are too erm.. short? Especially the D-pad. It feels like I have to make an effort to press each button, whereas most Nintendo controllers have nice big chunky buttons that you don't have to think about too hard.

Sounds exaggerated, I know, but it bugs me.

Also: PSX analogue sucks.
Aug 12th, 2003 09:52 PM
ROOKIE i find the default xbox and dreamcast controllers very awkward. my favorite controllers are psx/ps2, it's like you don't even have to hold the controller.
Aug 11th, 2003 11:59 AM
timrpgland I haven't found myself having trouble with that. Normally I control which button I press

The DC's joystick is also pretty good. Nice sensitivity and response. The D-Pad isn't that great though.
Aug 11th, 2003 11:38 AM
Les Waste One thing about the Dreamcast controller that I think is both good and bad are the L and R triggers. Because when you naturally hold the controller, your fingers are on the triggers. That's great when you play a game where you're always using the triggers, but when you're playing a game where pushing L or R does something that you don't want to do 90 percent of the time, it's hard not to accidentally push the triggers cause your fingers are on them all the time.
