Oh, just fyi, Freddy is NOT a child molester. They were going to go with this, but they changed the script because of a series of such events happening in the area. Hang on... Okay my dictionary says this about the word: 1)to pester or annoy in a hostile or injurious way, 2) attack or interfere with, esp. sexually. Alright, fine. I'd say he meets those criteria. Nevermind. Can you tell I'm way too obsessed? |

Fathom Zero | As far as serious Freddy goes, Wes Craven's New Nightmare scared the shit out of me as a kid and it's one of the few movies that still does. I love it.

IronJ146 | Had an uber-fan invite me to go with him so I bit (it's okay if it's other people's income, right?). It really wasn't that bad. Loved Jackie Earl Haley, and thought it was paced pretty well. The more serious tone didn't pull the rug out from under the character like I was afraid it would.

Soapbox Oh, dear. I've stirred a hornet's nest. I see absolutely no reason for a remake in the first place, so who's playing Freddy is a moot issue. Yes, it's hard playing him (believe me, I've tried) and no one can match Robert's work. Though if you don't mind my getting philosophical, I think Freddy is a little more than the man who plays him- kinda like V for Vendetta. Freddy is the embodiment of our fears, both individually and collectively. He's literally everyone's worst nightmare since he knows what you're afraid of. And he gives a name to the abstract fear that lurks in the darkest corners of the human psyche - that primal dread of the mysterious, the unknown. Every culture has its bogeyman- Freddy is ours. Let him eat cake! Okay, I'll shut up now. Sorry. |

In my head this was going to be roughly as bad as Jeepers Creepers 2. The older I get, the more respect I have for Robert Englund. When these movies were big in the theater, I was a little kid and didn't quite understand what was going on with Freddy other than he was a cartoonish sort of guy. Now I realize that it takes serious balls to try and play a charismatic child molester. |

16% on Rotten Tomatoes. I like Jackie Earle as much as the next guy, but it doesn't matter how good he is, when you have a shit script and Michael Bay behind the production, it's not going to fare well. If you're curious about it, just wait 'til it comes out on cable so you're not paying directly to support it. When you go to theaters, especially on opening weekend, you're telling Hollywood "Yes, I'm glad you keep churning out these shitty remakes! Keep 'em coming!" Fuck that. |

10,000 Volt Ghost | I heard he was really good and comitted to the role...just the makeup was kinda bad. Haley is Englund approved too.

Happy Birthday indeed. You can celebrate his birthday by NOT going to see the new remake and giving it your financial support. |
