Computer won't recognize new USB ports as USB2.0's

I got a Creative MP3 player for Christmas, and while it works fine on other computers I need it to work on my 5-year-old 2.0 gig, i think 512 MB RAM computer. I had to buy an add-on card with USB 2.0 ports, but still when I plug it in it will recognize the device for what it is but it won't work, and it powers it so slowly that the charging process actually drains more power than it puts in.

So, I checked my device manager and while the new USB ports are working fine for old-style USB operations like my webcam, they're not recognized as being USB 2.0's. Yes, I did install the included drivers and shit. So, what do I need to do?
