Cap'n Crunch Maybe the website was hacked.

JeefGyle The internet is just getting ridiculous with viruses and spyware. I was looking for lyrics to a song, and stumbled across letsingit.com. As soon as the main page loaded, my virus scanner notified me that it had blocked 7 viruses!

When it's come to getting 7 viruses for looking up song lyrics, that's pretty bad.

Emu Never download anything like Comet Cursor or the Yahoo toolbar or any of that. There is not ONE SINGLE GOD DAMN FUNCTION on any of those that is useful in any way.

JeefGyle The Hard Drive has been wiped, the shit is gone, and all my files are restored.
May 22nd, 2004 10:48 AM
JeefGyle Haha, yea that's true. I might have to do that.
May 22nd, 2004 10:08 AM
AChimp Hmm... it sounds drastic, but if those programs won't get rid of it, I recommend that you backup your important data and reinstall everything on your computer. Sometimes that's the only way.

Besides, a couple days of inconvenience is better than making some asshole wads of cash everytime you use the Internet.

JeefGyle I looked through all the files, and found nothing with the same web address. This is so gay. I'm beginning to think I'm stuck with this.

pjalne Some guy had a problem with this on another forum I go to. This was the tip he got, don't know if it works.

Run a search on your hard drive for any files ending with *.hta or *.js. If you find any, open them in notepad or some other text editor and look for the URLs that you have been hijacked to. Any file with those URLs, delete them. Also delete all *.tmp files on your drive; some of them contain malicious code (for e.g. browser hijacks or malware (re)installations). Besides, deleting *.tmp files doesn't hurt, unlike dll's which are also used sometimes for this purpose.

Some recommended programs:

Spybot S&D [recommended]
Ad-aware
Aluria Spyware Eliminator
SpySweeper

I use Hijack This, Spybot & Ad-Aware.

JeefGyle God dammit! This is pissing me off so bad. I scan with 3 different spyware scanners, yet they find nothing. I do a virus scan, finds nothing. It seems like I am stuck with this shit. Anyone else have any ideas?
May 20th, 2004 02:49 PM
JeefGyle I updated AdAware, and Spybot didn't have any updates available.
May 20th, 2004 12:15 AM
AChimp Have you updated Ad Aware or Spybot? That might help. :/
May 19th, 2004 11:38 PM
JeefGyle What do you recommend I use that will detect this shit?
May 19th, 2004 09:53 PM
AChimp Yeah, the advertisers.

who pays them? the advertisers? I don't know anyone who buys anything from ads on the computer...
May 19th, 2004 09:03 PM
AChimp Hmm... maybe you need to turn your security settings up, or there's something that those programs can't detect. :S
May 19th, 2004 08:59 PM
JeefGyle Ok, now the yellow boxes are back and it's really fucking pissing me off. I just ran Ad-Aware and Spybot, they both found a few things and I deleted them. But the boxes are still here!!!
May 19th, 2004 08:01 PM
JeefGyle I'm getting so sick of this shit. Everything has spyware in it.

How can I set either Spybot or Ad-Aware to run automatically late at night or something?
May 19th, 2004 07:52 PM
AChimp It's called "context sensitive advertising" or something like that. It's really gay, but a whole bunch of websites are using it now because it pays lots of money.
May 19th, 2004 07:48 PM
JeefGyle Damn, I just scanned for that shit yesterday and deleted some stuff.

Thanks a lot though. I thought it was somewhere in my settings.
May 19th, 2004 07:47 PM
AChimp You have spyware installed. Use AdAware or Spybot to get rid of it.

When I visit these forums, words like "Movies" "Video" "Art", and others are highlighted in Yellow, and when I hold my cursor over them a box appears that says,

"Category: (whatever category it falls under)"
"Related Links:"

Does anyone know how to get rid of this? I'm sure it's not the forums doing this, but something in my settings.
