What's a henna design?
Its something like a ground up plant into a powder that stains the skin temporarily. Earlier this year when my sister was bald from Chemo I did a Henna tattoo on her head and I did a good job! So I am sure I'd be able to do one on myself.

And where do you plan on getting it done (on your body)?
Not definite - but probably my upper arm classic area.

kahljorn You can get a smiley face on your arm by heating up a lighter till it gets realy hot and push it against your skin. I have two.

Cap'n Crunch People can get a huge rash from that henna shit. Some little girl had it on the news. It was hilarious.

AChimp Henna is a type of black ink, I believe. :/

But I'm a stupid chimp, so I'm not sure.

sspadowsky Well, the guy who did mine has been doing them for about 11 years, and I think he did excellent work. My guess would be that they do that with most custom designs. I would think that they would want it to be exactly correct, but I could be wrong too.

EDIT: What's a henna design? And where do you plan on getting it done (on your body)?

perfect. Because I was considering doing a henna version myself and have them ink over that, but those methods sound like they would work fine

*edit* now I just need to rob someone so I can pay for it

They have a variety of predesigned patterns (in the thousands as far as I can see from the display rooms of the parlors) that kind of get "stamped" over the skin and the tatto artist just sort of traces along the skin, at least partially, towards the finished work. The only problem with these generic designs is that it usually seems to be assigned to the flunkies because the free-hand work takes longer, is more intricate, and is usually done by the more talented and "in demand" artists. That's kind of a blanket statement, I guess, and I can't confirm that it's 100% accurate. It just seems to be the case from what I've observed.

Rongi NEGATIVE NUMBERS AREN'T ON RULERS

I want a tattoo on my penis that makes it look like a train with people in it.

LAME TATTOO JOKE

This guy gets a tattoo on his penis that says WENDY. But when it's not erect, all it says is "WY"

One day he's in the men's room and he sees a jamaican guy standing next to him. His penis also has "WY" on it

"Your girl's name is Wendy too?" he asks?

The jamaican replies "No mon. It says "WELCOME TO JAMAICA MON, HAVE A NICE DAY"'

I have five tattoos. Four on my left arm, and one on my ankle, all done myself, and they turned out good. I used a sewing needle and india ink.

Jeanette X I read that in certain parts of Africa where the inhabitants skin is too dark for tattoos to show they make designs using raised scars.

Buffalo Tom If it's a small to medium sized image, they make a photocopy of your design using a special stenciling paper. They apply the photocopied image onto the area you want the tattoo applied, so it will look exactly how you want it. They can adjust the size of the image, according to how you want it. You usually make an appointment to see an tattoo artist, so you can have time to talk to him/her about how you want the tattoo done. Plus, it gives you a chance to get to know your artist and how he/she works. Ask to see his/her portfolio; most artists take photos of their work.

sspadowsky The artist I went to used a nifty little trick with tracing paper and speed stick that sticks the design to your skin. So he had a temporary copy of the design on my skin, and he just inked over that.

If you bring in a design of your own, it might save you a little dough, too.

Anonymous No, I don't want to actually get branded, I just wondered if there was a fast kinda way to tattoo like that. I don't really care about the pain, I just thought tattoo's took a long time that's all. It wouldn't be a big tat, and only one color, so I guess from what everyone said it wouldn't take long at all.
The other thing though, is that... it has to be perfect or someone will die. If you bring in a design, how accurate is a tattoo artist going to be. That is another reason I was wondering if there was a way to "stamp" it in.

Dole When I first got the idea for a tattoo of Minnie Mouse being shagged by Chewbacca, people scoffed....NOW WHOS LAUGHING, EH?
Oct 3rd, 2003 10:48 AM
Eternal_Champion People used to bend paperclips & heat them up and scar themselves. Inexpensive
Oct 3rd, 2003 10:13 AM
Buffalo Tom Yeah, Dole's tat is awesome for sure.
Oct 3rd, 2003 09:41 AM
Dole Cheers mate
Oct 3rd, 2003 09:25 AM
sspadowsky Doopa, I would just have someone do it. Mine was fairly elaborate as far as the outline goes, and that only took about 45 minutes.

BTW, I've seen Dole's tattoo, and it rules.
