Old Sep 11th, 2006, 10:03 AM        Why the original DS instead of Lite?
I just saw a couple side-comments on this, and i've been thinking about getting a Lite soon, but i'd like to know what the real differences and opinions on them are here first. I didn't see a topic for this as i skimmed the first and second page, so help me out, guys ;<

The Lite is for girls and you don't want to be one of those, do you?

i think they also did something with the hardware, wifi-wise, but i could be misremembering things

I found the lite to be a bit too small for my big monkey hands, but I wouldn't be surprised if the old one isn't compatible with the Nintendo Wii like Eric mentioned. Anyway, yeah the screen on the new one is supposed to be brighter, just prefer the feel of the original.

i heard something about hinges on the lite, but i also heard that it doesn't break unless you push it past where it was intended.

I remember at work all the DS Lites did have a crack on the left hinge, but it's not like it affected anything or fell apart. It has more levels of brightness, and is a lot brighter than the normal DS. And it's um, smaller.

The stylus is alot bigger which would kick ass if I had one cause hands basicly eat the poor regular one. But the lites are cheap pieces of shit if you ask me. Me and my friend were playing new super mario brothers and he has a lite and he closes it so we can go mess with some chicks outside. We come back and a screw came out. A FUCKING SCREW. We try to figure out how to fix it because neither of the screens are turning on for him and we find out a replacement part is like 30 bucks minimum. So he gets a refund and buys a regular DS instead. But like other peeps said its smaller and the screen is way brighter. Its also got a light adjuster. But thats all Ive seen and heard. Didnt know it did shit with the wii though.

I think it all comes down to cost. You can either pay less and get an original DS or pay more and get a lite.
I was playing an original DS last night for a few hours and had no complaints whatsoever, the screen was perfectly bright. However this was in low-light conditions.

Perhaps it's best you just try them both out before you decide.

Fuck that. This isn't like some sort of software patch. This is an expensive machine. You can't just upgrade. You'll have to spend another hundred bucks or so to get a worse machine than you already had. Get a regular DS. Please.

for one thing, i have tiny hands, for another thing, i'm not rough on my game systems. hell, my atari 2600 still is in excellent condition, along with more than one controller.

i don't plan to play this only when it's dark, so the screen brightness is kinda important to me. Plus, all this and i'm also very into looks and the color pink. How long is the manufacturer warranty?

I think I kind of like the original design better. My mom owns a DS Lite (yes, my mom) and I have went over to my parents house and tried it out. I don't see the big deal. On the other hand I'm not really sure, if I didn't already own the original, which one I'd buy.

I still think the GBA SP is the coolest design. The biggest flaw is the need for a adapter cable to use headphones.

I never looked for GBA Headphones, figured just getting a $2-$4 adaptar for my current headphones was enough.

I'm finally getting my hands on a NGPC today. Getting Dark Arms and Biomotor Unitron with it most likely.
