Yeah, I know I haven't said anything in a while since the whole "First Impressions" thing, but I feel I really need to get this off my chest. Though I don't really know why I'm saying it here as the majority of you can't stay on topic for, well, at all actually!

Anyway...

Recently it was found that Nintendo want to ban all fangames that use their characters. Zelda games seem to be the primary targets. Now, I may have not been bothered, but the fact is...

FANGAMES ARE LEGAL!!!

As long as Nintendo are credited and no money is made, they are legal. So, are they in the right, or in the wrong?

Just try for at least 1 page to stay on topic?

Well, I'll oblige you for the time being...

Companies do this all the time. If you look on Newgrounds, you're bound to find people who've made movies/games featuring characters from Robocop, Zelda, etc. and unfortunately, some of them have been so good as to attract the attention of the owners of said characters, and they then tell the authors to quit using their characters or else.

I can understand companies wanting to protect their properties, in the sense that they might not want to see Zelda porn or some shit that defaces their games/characters. But to want to ban ALL fangames seems incredibly foolish.

Taking aggressive action toward something like this will only help to continue alienating their audience.

Wow, 3 on topic replies. I've underestimated the I-Mockery alumni.

To answer your question "the_dudefather", er, I dunno! It was mentioned somewhere that Nintendo Of America were requesting the removal of all fangames featuring likenesses of their games.

At first I though Ocarina Of Time 2d by Daniel Barras had been taken down because of this, but apparently it was Yahoo...

But elsewhere, Zelda fangames are being taken down.

I'm glad that you are in agreement with me.

That's a damn shame about the 2D OoT. But the rest of it might just be wieners panicking over the first instance. Uninformed people having irrational fear of being slapped with a lawsuit, then going on forums or in chatrooms to discuss their concerns. And after having been told by dozens of people that it's unlikely you'll get targeted if you're not hugely popular AND you always get one or more warnings to take down your content before you're actually sued, they'll stubbornly still decide to wipe out every trace of their crime and all but disconnect themselves from the internet.

I guess because so many of Nintendo's new games lately have been such crap they can't afford the competition from the shit fans make anymore.

No, his website got shut down by Yahoo. Or it went down for some reason...

Either way, if Nintendo really are cracking down on the fangame community, then OOT2D will be a definite target.

Let's see how many more times you can bring that up before you actually complete one of these movies.

I know there was a fan-made MMO game that was made in the likeness of Zelda, but they had to change all that. In the screenshots, though, you can tell where they got their inspiration.

This is completely incorrect. Research something for once in your life before you trust what some mong on mIRC told you.

Not only are the characters protected under a registered copyright, but any instance of unauthorized usage is an infringement of Nintendo's intellectual property, whether it's for monetary gain or otherwise. Furthermore (though not even necessary to bring up), the authors of these fan games are gaining popularity through their manufacture and distribution of these games. Honestly, who would care about the 2D OOT project if it wasn't basically a Zelda game?

Seriously, people should have a better use for their time than using unoriginal ideas and content to mimic a game that came out in the 90s, to release to people over the internet for free. Nintendo's doing them a favor.

The Steven Seagal show got bought by Atom Films and put on their site. Part of the deal was that the movie would only be allowed to be accesible on their site.

uh, not really. Atom Films offered the creators money for their toons. They accepted and agreed to their terms. And as far as I know, Steven Seagal has yet to give any sign that he knows of the existence of the toons.

But if you want to see them again, you can find the links at www.thetoiletonline.com (creator's site). Unfortunately Atom Films sucks cock and messed up the dimensions for the movie, so you see all kinds of shit that's usually cut off by the frame.

Fangames blow chunks, it's the same games only the mismatched the pixles around and have a shit for brains game engine along with it.

As for the 2D orcarina of time, remakes of games usually advance on the graphics, sounds, and gameplay on a game, not dumbing them down.
