Sit down and concentrate very hard on a scenario where you would be pressed to make this decision immediately. I'm assuming your deciding wether or not to do something with a girl, so for those purposes imagine you are together.

Would you be able to do the right thing, or realistically would you have to give in to desire? If you know you couldn't do the right thing then give up and go with the carnal flow, or else you'll do so anyway and just be unhappy about it.

If you can manage to truly choose the logical and right path though I gaurentee you you'll be much much happier. I was unbelievably happy when I decided to stop being a homewrecker with a girl I wanted really really bad. You get over it pretty fast once you realize its really for the best.

If you aren't talking about a girl then you must be some kinda fag.

Desire - I let my emotions take hold of me, and I lay into someone who has put me through hell the past couple months. I let all my thoughts and feelings out on them, with the hopes that I hurt them, and with the unfortunate subconscious desire to make them come crawling back.

Logic - I just cut my losses, not risking putting anything more out there, and just walk away. Revenge is stupid, and I'd be setting myself up for them to hurt me by not caring about anything I'd have to say.

It wont make anything better, in fact everything will either be much worse with a slim to none chance of being totally awesome, but you'll probably feel a hell of a lot better for it, and really, what does it matter on any scale of things?

Give it a month and the problem will be gone one way or another.
