So, what did you GIVE this Christmas?
As a young child, it seemed ridiculous that anyone could ever believe "it's better to give than to receive". However, sometime in my teen years I discovered that moral high ground has far more utility than whatever your family gives you in reflection of what they imagine your tastes and desires to be.
So, this year, I gave:
My older sister- a terry cloth bathrobe, the fabric of which had some Picasso artwork dyed into it. Because it seemed at one point that it wouldn't arrive in the mail on time, I also bought her ink refills for the Montblanc Scenium I gave her for her med school graduation. (I can't imagine that she'd spend $11 on a month's worth of ink herself.)
My younger sister- DVD editions of "The Dark Crystal" and "The Princess Bride".
My parents- 50% of a 10" digital picture frame (my siblings contributed to the rest).
Also, as an added bonus I generously shared with my family French-pressed Kopi Luwak. Only AFTER I had them all elaborate on how good it tasted (it was the first time I had it too, and HOLY SHIT IS IT SMOOOOOOOTH) did I explain to them how it's different from every other coffee on Earth.
