Mike & Mike offered this little tidbit of knowledge this morning: the last 5 teams to be ranked number 1 in the first BCS poll went on to play for the BCS Championship. So Texas has tradition on their side.

But only 2 "initial" #1's in the past 10 years have actually won the championship. Double-edged sword, that.
