According to the dev team the choices you make in the game affect the appearance of the characters and the monsters and shit, so I'm assuming Harry being a slut turned Dahlia so or something.

Not sure why she's 30 years younger than in the original, though.

The whole gist of what Climax is trying to do is basically apply the representation of Silent Hill from the second game, i.e. a personalized hell/purgatory for bastards, but instead of poor old James Sunderland or Harry Mason the town's punishing, it's you. So they give you a bunch of psychological tests and shit at the beginning to try and find out what kind of person you are, and of course it's also reflected by gameplay descisions, and the game is supposedly tailored from this to scare and disturb you as much as possible. Considering the original game focused pretty heavily on the things Alessa hated or was afraid of, this is a gigantic change of aesthetic.

Why they thought a bunch of ice and shit would be more iconic than the usual rusty grating and dirty hospital sheets is beyond me, though. It also kind of scares me how much the trailers for this game take after Alone in the Dark, especially the real-time landscape morphing.

I'll still buy it, though. 3 years ago I might have not bothered with a game I wasn't 100% about, but release starvation hasn't made me picky, especially when it comes to Wii games.

I respect they're trying something new with the whole psychological tests and the flashlight. Recently I've realized that I love Silent Hill 4 because they tried a lot of new things. Most of them didn't work but man, almost. The titular room was a stroke of genius, I wish they'd invested more time into that part of the game.

This sort of thing is what makes me feel they missed the point. How long does it take to build that sort of game mechanic? And yet it has no effect on the atmosphere, if anything it kills the mood. They probably shouldn't be showing the transition in the first place, it's bad for ambiguity.

I could bitch and moan until the cows came home but regardless of what I say I'll definitely end up playing this game eventually. Even if I'd known Homecoming was going to turn out the way it did I'd still of played it because I'd need to see it for myself.
