Punk is stopping at 18 bars before playing a show, spitting beer at your lead singer and guitarist, throwing your $1200 bass into the crowd halfway through a song because you have a defective cord, cowering in a corner, and then pissing on a monitor. Consequently, the last show my band played was the epitome of punk, despite the fact that we were considered a metal band. Oh, and also getting paid and not sharing any of it with the other bands.

Punk was needed in the late seventies in the UK because the only type of music around was over-polished poppy crap, it was a reaction where they went to the exact opposite. Record Labels killed punk, like they are killing all music. If you want to support music, steal it.
