In my college bookstore, I saw a book that I believe was called The Golden Ratio about the mathematical constant phi. A roomie on one of my high school adventures told me about it, evidently there are all sorts of magical phenomenon associated with this number. The double helix, the cochlea, sea shells, spiral galaxies, and a whole bunch of other stuff seem to operate by this ratio. Does anybody know anything about it? What's the general scheme of it? I'd love to read the book but I didn't want to pay for the hardback version.

In the earliest moments of mankind, people used to turn cats into tigers, and tigers into cats, with Phi. A man named Phillip originally discovered this phenomenon, his greatest act was the invention of rising bread(in my opinion).

Here's a pretty good geocities link that explains, in a nutshell, what the "Golden Ratio", or phi, is and how it relates to the "Golden Section" and the "Fibernacci Series". This ratio and it's relation to nature was considered to be so sacred by early civilizations, especially the greeks (Re: Pythagoras), that it was heavily featured in their art, literature, architecture, ect.
