Does America deserve pot shots to be taken against it? Is the US acting as the US should?

Do the ethics of it though? How about US compliance with international law?

You think the case against Bin Laden was weak enough that he would've got off? Technicalities happen and are caused by mistakes. Perhaps you believe mistakes happened? However as WhiteRat so unironically stated "I really shouldn't have to explain more, like I said, it's fucking BIN LADEN." An exception can be made? Head on a stick and carried around the town?

What is the line between war and crime? What about war crimes? Like... Torture?

Yes. Have you heard of Godwin's Law? You mentioned the Nazis. You lost. As for Churchill being great; his planning can easily be shown to be flawed. More ANZACs died at Gallipoli than the War victims in the twin towers. Where is your commiseration for those dead? You unfeeling monster.

Yes. Just like Saddam used his trial. No one thinks he is still alive. As for galvanising the world against the US. It does that itself by repeatedly disrespecting the sovereignty of other countries and having little regard for international law. As well as reneging on their own morals when it suits.

Like I mentioned in this thread already, I struggle to avoid words like myopic, provincial, remedial and ludicrous. I find it difficult to avoid exasperation. I do not understand your view point of view. It isn't what I was taught to be right. It isn't what I have experienced to be right in the world. Your assumption that you are right to disregard principles because Bin Laden is a foreigner or that his crime is enough for him to not be afforded human rights perplexes me. The US has acted against what it claims it stands for. The world isn't black and white and easy, agreed. However the US could stop claiming to be the good guys when they plainly do not act like what they say the good guys should act like. Bin Laden was a criminal. What he did was wrong. His victims did not deserve to die like that. The families of his victims deserve the closure of knowing for certain he has paid for his crime. We have all heard Bin Laden's hate-filled nonsense before. His spouting it at a trial will sway only those fools that will just as easily be swayed by his death.
Justice and revenge can be tangled ideas. Concepts of strength and weakness is a seemingly bottomless pit of debate. Striking out at an attacker is easy, showing them compassion is hard. Love your enemies as you love yourself. Do onto others as you would have them do onto you. Might makes right. Desire is reason enough. The unexamined life is not worth living. Such childish ideas each.
In the end I am okay that Osama Bin Laden is dead. It could have been done better though.
I am sad that I doubt my attempt at Socratic questioning will have you reconsider anything. But then my mind is perhaps as closed as I am certainly not swayed by your arguments. The fun of worrying about my own bigotry will be my companion today.
