How can you tell if they're flirting with you?

A few girls have done some things that I think are akin to flirting, but it is very hard for me to tell. :/

Its mean, but so is fake flirting, and its the only way to distinguish between the two.

I'm not saying to be a dick. Just show NO interest in them as anything more than an aquantance.

The ignoring theory isn't really normal unless you're un-social. Who cares if they weren't flirting with you? Nothings wrong with pursuing a friendship with someone anyways.

And if this "flirting" your talking about is just a few glances from a random girl, she probably thinks your staring at her and she'd like you to stop creeping her out.

It's not that I don't talk much... it's more that I don't talk much to people which I don't know very well. I'm not the one to start a conversation with strangers, especially when I'm confused as to what I should do (hence, why I avoid some).
