Yes, I'm shocked that they are connected too, but they are I found this funny article at The Simon that talks about it. I didn't realize before that Hummers got such abysmal mileage, but they do (trust me, its bad).

I didnt read that crappy article, but I can tell you that the hummer gets bad milage since its exhaust system is configured in such a way that it reduces its infra-red signature to avoid guided missles. This is very uselfull for people who surrond themselves with excess and waste things just because they can.
