Old Aug 13th, 2004, 09:06 AM        More game freezing problems
The thing that bothers me the most, is that these were all running smoothly a few months ago. I need to know if this is an easily fixable problem or if it's a missing windows file or something that's corrupting my games.

2 new ones, Jedi Academy and Need For Speed Underground.

JA freezes at the most innapropriate and random times. No special effects or hard to render areas, I could be walking down an empty corridor and the game stops dead.

NFS irks me. I started off playing on default quality, while in a race the screen would kind of "skip?" or pause quickly, not really causing any problems for the game, but soon enough it would freeze out of nowhere.

Here's where it gets weird, if I lower the quality and resolution, the game obviously plays smoother than butter, but is more likely to freeze. When I put the game at a higher resolution, the game runs fairly slower but freezing is minimized.

I just want to play in peace.

Specs:

Windows XP Home Edition
v 2002

AMD Athlon XP 1800+
1.54 GHz
512 MB of RAM

My 3d card or whatever is a NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400.

help plz

Do you have the latest drivers for your GeForce?

Jedi Academy froze on me a bunch, too. Of course, I got my copy... second-hand... so, I couldn't really complain. Try seeing if there's any patches if you have a... first-hand... copy.

Also, make sure you have the latest drivers and the newest DirectX version installed.

BTW, GeForce2 sucks.

I agree, so is there an easy way to go about fixing this, like getting a new card? Or is it not that simple, or might it not solve my problem?

How's your HD if you start to run low (ie. 1GB) it will slow down dramatically.
